July 1: Sustainability series

The latest edition in the monthly Sustainability Series from Siouxland Libraries focuses on homesteading and how to get started no matter where you live. You’ll learn tips, tricks and mistakes to avoid while creating a more sustainable lifestyle from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Main Library downtown. Click here for information. 

July 2: Eastbank Block Party

It’s First Friday yet again! Head downtown to 8th & Railroad Center from 5:30 to 11 p.m. Here’s what’s planned:

Music: First up, Mat D. Dubbed as the “Hemingway of the Highway” by fans, singer-songwriter Mathew deRiso has written, recorded and performed original music since 2006. He’s followed by Neon Horizon, an independent rock band based out of Sioux Falls.

The headliner is Merry Martial, a psychedelic rock ‘n’ roll trio from Sioux Falls.

Food trucks: Backyard BBQ, SDSU Ice Cream, The Lunch Box, Redders and Windy City Bites.

July 3: Star-Spangled Celebration

Break out your red, white and blue in Harrisburg where Lava’s Coffee and The Sandlot are hosting fun events from 9 a.m. to noon. The Sandlot will have open play where you can dig in the sand for prizes. There will be games and face painting. Lava’s Coffee will have festive treats, patriotic drinks and host a bike parade. It’s $12 for an all-access pass or $7 for sand play. For the bike parade, $10 per child gets you decorations for your bike, stroller, wagon, etc., and a treat and refreshment for after the parade. July 3-5: Lennox Old Fashioned Fourth of July weekend celebration

Join bands Judd Hoos and Denham as they provide the soundtrack for the Lennox street dance, taking place Saturday from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. The dance is part of Lennox’s Fourth of July weekend celebration, with other events, including community worship Sunday and a parade Monday. July 4: Sioux Falls Fireworks

Fireworks return to the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds thanks to a new nonprofit. Enjoy past favorites including the Sioux Falls Municipal Band, kids area, POET ethanol-powered flyover and fireworks sponsored by MarketBeat, CarSwap, Grand Falls and Sunny 93.3 FM. New additions include a giant 30-by-60-foot American flag, more than 100 flags honoring America and a patriotic light show and music. The event starts at 7 p.m., and fireworks will shoot off at 10 p.m. Click here for more on this free event.

July 7: Minnehaha County Master Gardeners Garden Tour

Tour several beautiful and unique garden sites in southern Sioux Falls, a peaceful yard in Old Orchard, an inviting church prayer garden and a working small farm with an aquaponics growing system. This is a self-guided tour, and you can start at any location. Tickets are $10. For information, click here. 

July 7: Yoga at the Levitt

Celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month with a relaxing yoga session at one of the city’s favorite live music venues from 6 to 6:45 p.m. All ages and levels are welcome. Each session will be led by a different yoga partner in town. Weather permitting. No registration required.
