April 11: Vegetable gardening
If you can’t wait to get your hands dirty, consider signing up for “The Dirt Class” at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Mary Jo Wegner Arboretum. Minnehaha Master Gardeners will offer Session 1: The Dirt. It’s Vegetable Gardening 101. Master Gardeners Jerry Mills and Sarah Linneman will answer all your questions and give you a comprehensive foundation of vegetable gardening. Sign up here. April 12-13:
The Center for Western Studies will host its Books & More sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Fantle Building at Augustana University. The event will offer a great selection of books, games, puzzles, movies and music for all ages. Paperbacks and CDs will cost 50 cents each, with hardcover books, games, puzzles and DVDs for $1 each.

April 12-14: Horse show
The 53rd annual South Dakota Spring Arabian Horse Show will run for three days at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds. Competition will take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday. A silent auction will benefit The Arabian Horse Society of South Dakota Youth Group. For a complete schedule of events, click on this link.

April 13: Bacon Fest
The Sioux Falls Roller Dollz will host Bacon Fest at Remedy at 611, 611 N. West Ave., from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. The day will include a bacon-eating contest and a bacon-recipe contest.

For $10, your Pork Passport will allow you to try all the bacon recipes entered and then vote for your favorites. The event also includes a silent auction, raffle, face painting, bacon skewers and Remedy beer. To enter the bacon-eating or bacon-recipe contest, use this link.
April 13: Comedy art collective
Aleda Wind Comedy will present the Comedy Art Collective at Icon Event Hall at 5 p.m. Saturday at 402 N. Main Ave. The unique event will feature multifaceted artists and performers combining art, comedy and music in a something-for-everyone showcase. Musicians include Rebecca Gehm, Trish Darell and Brian James Hoffman, with local comics Aleda Windels, Sara Manson and Ian McLean. The headliner is Adam Goodge, who combines visual art and humor. Tickets cost $15 and can be purchased here.

Coming up: April 20
The ninth annual Big Sioux River Greenway Clean-up, hosted by the city of Sioux Falls, Friends of the Big Sioux River and Sioux Falls Sustainability, will take place from 10 a.m. to noon April 20 at seven locations along the city’s recreation trail. Volunteer coordinators at each park location will supply bags and gloves. Locations include the Falls Park Farmers Market Shelter and Cherry Rock, Pasley, Yankton Trail, Sertoma, Legacy and Elmwood parks.
