The Week Ahead is our hand-picked event guide to the next seven days in Sioux Falls and slightly beyond. For guaranteed placement or to promote your event ahead of time, email [email protected] about a featured event listing.

Jan. 24: Eclectic Americana

Don McKenna, who performs what he terms as eclectic Americana or country-rockabilly-folk/rock-blues, will be the featured artist at noon Friday at the Old Courthouse Museum as part of its Winter Concert Series. Coming up: guitarist Geoff Gunderson, Jan. 31; the Dakota Wind Quintet, Feb. 7; guitarist Billy Lurken, Feb. 14; duo Dave and Vicki Wood, Feb. 21; and James Dean on acoustic instrumental guitar, Feb. 28.

Jan. 24: Paint like Picasso

SuFu Creative is giving you the chance to paint like Picasso. Bring a pal — or come alone — and get in touch with your inner Picasso when you try abstract art. The event will run from 5 to 6 p.m. at 218 W. 13th St., Suite 112.

Jan. 24-25: Quarter-century sale

It’s 2025, and that means one-fourth of the 21st century has passed by. To mark the event, Simply Perfect, 8th & Railroad Center, is throwing a Quarter of a Century Party on Friday and Saturday. A sweet treat and beverage will be offered while you shop. Since Simply Perfect is planning new renovations and products, specials and savings on the furniture and accessories in the store will be offered. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Jan. 28: Beer-glass school

Different glasses for different beers. Ever wonder why? Severance Brewing Co. at 701 N. Phillips Ave. will host an evening of beer and beer-glass education at 6 p.m. Tuesday. It includes four tasters of your choice, a beer-glass course and a glass of your choice to take home. Purchase your ticket for $20 here.

Jan. 29: Comedy contest

The monthly stand-up comedy contest at The Club 224 — in the lower-level of Lucky’s — will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Jerry Irby will host the evening, which will include a set by last month’s winner, Zach Dresch. Sign-up to perform during the Larry Brinkman Stand-up Comedy Contest begins promptly at 7 at the club, 224 S. Phillips Ave.

Coming up: Jan. 31

Here’s an event that you don’t even have to leave your house for. SoDak Compost is hosting its first T-shirt design contest. You can sign up at sodakcompost.org. SoDak Compost is a local nonprofit that turns food scraps into rich compost. It’s looking for designs inspired by composting, nature and the state’s unique environment. The winning design will be voted on by the community, and judges will deliberate, before it’s printed on a green T-shirt. There’s a $10 entry fee — $5 for students.

Coming up: Feb. 1

Ready to meet your feline Valentine? You can mingle with single cats from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 1 at a brunch with mocktails and a coffee bar with a take-home cat mug. Included is a demonstration on putting together a vase of cat-friendly flowers and how to craft Valentine’s-themed cat toys. Tickets are $40; proceeds go to the Sioux Empire TNR Coalition to cover cat care costs. Kelcey Schroder Photography will offer Valentine’s photo-ops of the cats. In a separate room you can bring your own cats for a photo-op — sign up for separately through Kelcey Schroder Photography. The event will happen at Casetta meeting space, 201 W. 37th St. Tickets are available Tickets are available here.
