Jan. 23-24: Whiskey Fest

Best Whiskey Fest Midwest comes to Monick Yards, 601 E. Eighth St., from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and 3:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Friday’s VIP reception takes place at Cherapa Place Interconnect, with general admission session starting at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. It will include about 120 hand-selected whiskeys, short talks and master classes, cocktails and mocktails. Rideshare is encouraged. Tickets are available from Monick Yards.

Jan. 23-25: ‘I and You’

The Premiere Playhouse and Icon Event Hall, 402 N. Main Ave., are offering an evening of dinner and a play on Jan. 23 and Jan. 24 and a matinee Jan. 25. “I and You” showtimes are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Seating begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 12:30 p.m. Sunday in DaDa Gastropub. The menu includes beef bourguignon and a poached pear dessert. The play is the story of two teenagers brought together by a homework assignment on Walt Whitman. Tickets cost $70 and are available here. Limited non-meal tickets are available.

Jan. 24: Model trains

The Dakota Southeastern Division of the National Model Railway Association will bring its HO and N scale model train layouts to Siouxland Libraries’ downtown branch, 200 N. Dakota Ave., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Switching layouts will be on display, allowing children to earn an engineer’s certificate. It is free.

Jan. 24: Burns Night

Faith and begorrah! Dakota District Pipes & Drums will be part of Burns Night 2026, a celebration of poet Robert Burns, beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday at McNally’s Irish Pub, 6211 S. Old Village Place. The festivities will be preceded by Scotch tasting from 4 to 6 p.m. After that, witness the dramatic parade of the haggis, the ceremonial slicing of it — all set to the reading of Burns’ works — bagpipes and drums, and plenty of Guinness and whiskey to drink.

Jan. 28: Music Maker Mixer

Levitt Sioux Falls and DMM Systems are hosting a chance to connect with fellow music makers at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Startup Sioux Falls, 100 E. Sixth St. Joella and Rob Uehling of DMM will share insights on working with production crews and maximizing collaboration. The Uehlings are the local professionals who bring Levitt at the Falls’ concerts to life. Social time runs from 7 to 7:20 p.m. with the presentation and a Q&A session from 7:20 to 8:15 p.m.

Coming up: Feb. 13

Gist Wine Shop, 108 W. 11th St., will host a Galentine’s Day celebration Taylor Swift style on Feb. 13. The shop will offer sandwiches by Cultivated in Love, chips and chocolate and, with a little research of her favorites, a Swiftie wine flight. There will be Taylor Swift music; bring friendship bracelets to share if you’d like. Tickets are limited and can be purchased here. Cost is $50. The wine shop will close at 7 p.m. for the event.
