Feb. 26: Jacks trivia

Think you know the Jackrabbits? Join the Sioux Falls Area Jacks at trivia night at Gibs Sports Bar, 3104 E. 26th St., from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Trivia starts at 7 p.m.; participants will receive a complimentary drink. You’ll need your phone to play. Winners will be awarded South Dakota State University swag.

Feb. 26: Cosmos & Cocktails

It’s adults only at the Washington Pavilion at this popular event from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Enjoy three floors of interactive science exhibits, check out a presentation in the planetarium, marvel at artwork in eight art galleries, sip on tasty cocktails and more — without the kiddos!

The night includes:

  • Unlimited access to the Kirby Science Discovery Center.
  • Unlimited access to the Visual Arts Center.
  • Live planetarium presentation.
  • Specialty cocktails, wine and beer available for purchase.
  • Gourmet ice cream, fresh popcorn, wraps, sandwiches, candy and cold beverages available for purchase at Parlour.

Feb. 27: Storytime at the Barn

Stockyards Ag Experience, 301 E. Falls Park Drive, will host a story time from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Friday. Age-appropriate books on farming, ranching, farm-to-table and agriculture education will be chosen that day. There also will be time for free play and coloring in the lower-level interactive exhibit. The event is free.

Feb. 27: A weekend of plays 

Theatre Midwest will make a Season 6 tour stop in Sioux Falls, presenting “Apples in Winter” by Jennifer Fawcett. It will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Augustana University Edith Mortenson Center Theatre. This is part of the Claire Donaldson New Play Festival, which continues Saturday and Sunday. Feb. 28: Winter games

Green Room Productions will bring a full day of winter competition and live music to the Upper Cut Bar & Grill, 2805 E. 10th St., beginning with sign-up at 11 a.m. Saturday. Games will begin at 1 p.m. and include beer pong, tippy cup and minnow races. Each game has a small entry fee, with cash prizes awarded to the winners. Live music will start at 7 p.m. and feature Jordan Knopf of Tuff Roots. There is a $10 cover.

March 3: Full moon hike

Bask in the worm moon, the final full moon of winter in the Northern Hemisphere with this hike from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Great Bear Recreation Park. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Participants must be able to hike 1 mile on uneven terrain. Please wear sturdy shoes, and bring a flashlight if you wish. Registration is required here.

Coming up: March 19

Let’s look ahead to spring. Next month’s Thursday Talk will be all about bees — honey bees, native bees and wannabees. South Dakota volunteer naturalist and beekeeper Phil Breed will give the classroom presentation at 7 p.m. at Good Earth State Park at Blood Run, 26924 480th St.
