Feb. 16: Big Sioux Film Festival

Four short river-related films will be featured during the Big Sioux Film Festival, which takes place Thursday at the State Theatre. It will begin with a cocktail hour and silent auction at 5:30 p.m., with the film festival at 6:30 p.m. It’s a fundraiser for Friends of the Big Sioux River. Feb. 18: Backyard bird count

Love birds? Want to see how they’re doing? Come to the Great Backyard Bird Count and learn birding basics at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Liberty Elementary School Commons. 301 E. Willow St., Harrisburg. Use Entrance F on the building’s southeast corner. You’ll learn how to handle binoculars and bird behavior, flip through a bird book and build a feeder to take home. Guided bird walks also will be offered. Text BIRDS to 605-777-0110 to register.

Feb. 18:  Reptile club relaunches

Or, if  you love scaly creatures more than our feathered friends, consider this: The Sioux Falls Herpetological Society Reptile Club will relaunch at a meeting from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Outdoor Campus, 4500 S. Oxbow Ave. Upcoming meetings are March 11 and April 15. Reptile-themed snacks will be provided. It is free.

Feb. 18: Colors of Freedom fundraiser

A fundraiser to help Call for Freedom, which provides supportive services for victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation, will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Falls Overlook Cafe. It will include raffles of artwork and collecting gift cards for businesses such as Lewis Drug, Walmart and gas stations.

Feb. 19: Brunch Fest

The third annual Brunch Fest returns to Remedy Brewing Co. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. It’s open to all ages and includes food and drink specials.

Feb. 21: Trivia night

Time to collect all those bits and pieces of knowledge rolling around in your brain and compete for prizes at Trivia Night at WoodGrain Brewing Co. The  event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Teams can include up to six people, and it’s limited to 60 participants. Siouxland Libraries is the host.

Coming up: March 4

Bee Loved Kitchen will host a session of Greenhouse Yoga at 2 p.m. March 4 at Landscape Garden Centers. Soak up the energy from the plants around you while centering yourself through movement, breath and shavasana. Bee Loved Kitchen will provide smoothies and snacks, with Emily Wilson playing music tone on a handpan drum. You can register here.
