June 12: Outdoor music
After wandering from his Ohio roots, Link West now roams the prairie towns, scattering old-time Americana and FM hits to the folks he meets along the way. From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, he’ll scatter songs at the 12th Street Plaza during Dakota News Now’s Friday on the Plaza.

June 12: Creepies and crawlies
Sit around a campfire and learn about South Dakota’s nocturnal animals at Good Earth State Park at Blood Run, 26924 480th Ave. The all-ages event will begin at 7 p.m. Friday.

June 13: Learn to paddle
Learn the basics of canoeing and kayaking from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Sertoma Park, 4500 S. Oxbow Ave. It’s an open-house-style program hosted by the Outdoor Campus. All equipment is provided. Youths must be with an adult. Kids must be at least 5 years old to canoe and at least 8 to kayak.

June 13: Parade and festival
Sioux Falls Pride will offer a day of community, visibility and joy at two locations on Saturday. The Pride parade will begin at 10 a.m. in downtown Sioux Falls, while the festival will run from noon to 5 p.m. at Yankton Trail Park, 3902 S. Minnesota Ave. The parade will head north up Phillips Avenue, starting on at 13th Street and ending at Sixth Street. For a list of activities, click here.

June 13-14: Pop culture con
The South Dakota Ghostbusters will support Voices Against Cancer at 605 Pop Culture Con, beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Denny Sanford Premier Center. The weekend will include props, photo-ops, Ghostbusters gear and the South Dakota Ghostbusters crew. Celebrities in attendance will include Tim Downie, Anna Camp, Michael Bell, Emily Swallow, Wally Wingert, Vincent D’Onofrio and Alan Tudyk. It will end at 5 p.m. Sunday. For information, click here.

June 16: Let’s dance
Learn the basics of the cha cha, a fast and fun Latin dance, during a 45-minute lesson at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Dance Ballroom & Studio, 1001 E. Sixth St. Lisa Myhre will teach the class using the wood floors at the historic Little Stone Church. Cost is $13 a person — or $25 if you’re coming back June 23. A tango class will follow at 7:45 p.m. Cost is also $13 a person.
