Feb. 11: GALentine’s at JuLiana’s Boutique

Celebrate the holiday with a few friends, and ditch the traditional Valentine’s Day celebration — a bit early. On Friday, JuLiana’s Boutique is hosting a GALentine’s Day event featuring in-store discounts and raffles for gift cards and much more. When you visit the store, you’ll be greeted with candy, charcuterie and rosé. JuLiana’s Boutique is in the Harvester Building at 196 E. Sixth St., and the shopping event will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Feb. 11: Lonely Hearts Poetry Open Mic

The Full Circle Book Co-op is hosting a way for those who aren’t the biggest fans of Valentine’s Day to celebrate — a Lonely Hearts Poetry Open Mic. This open mic event encourages poetry that is the complete opposite of your expected love-themed Valentine’s Day poetry. “It’s not anti-valentine, but it’s close,” says the Book Co-op. The open mic night will take start at 8 p.m. Friday at 123 W. 10th St.

Feb. 11-12: Bulls & Broncs

Ready for two jam-packed nights of “Bulls & Broncs?” Head to the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds Expo Center on Friday and Saturday. The Bulls & Broncs event hosted by the Sioux Empire Fair Association will feature saddle bronc and bull riding, two popular rodeo events. The events start at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are available for sale at Runnings stores in Sioux Falls, Huron, Brookings, Mitchell and Madison or online here.

Feb. 12: Pet & People Stroll

If you didn’t know about all the pet-friendly places Sioux Falls has to offer, the Pet & People Stroll is a great way to see them all. Shop Dog Boutique and the Sioux Falls Winter Carnival are hosting the downtown walk, which will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire You’ll stop by pet-friendly restaurants and shops, and the first 90 pets to arrive will receive a free Sioux Falls Winter Carnival bandana. The walk will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday from Fawick Park at 10th and Second.

Feb. 12: Grandparent & Me Sports

Give your kids a chance to bond with your grandparents at Grandparent & Me Sports with Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation. This session is designed for 4- and 5-year-olds, with sports such as T-ball, soccer, football and basketball offered for them to try out. Registration is required, costs $5 and can be completed here. The event will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Kenny Anderson Community Center, 3701 E. Third St., adjacent to Anne Sullivan Elementary.

Feb. 12: Woo at the Zoo

Leave a valentine for your favorite resident at the Great Plains Zoo. Visitors can leave a valentine in the mailbox located at the different habitats. Bring your homemade card, or fill one out when you arrive. The zoo is open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Animals with valentine mailboxes include: Amur tigers, snow leopards, brown bears, primates, giraffes, red pandas, bighorn sheep, kangaroos, penguins, camels, New Guinea singing dogs, eastern black rhinoceroses, bison and the animals at the Hy-Vee Face-to-Face Farm.

Feb. 13: The Great Backyard Bird Count

Participate in an important global event with Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation on Sunday. The Great Backyard Bird Count is a multinational bird observation event that helps scientists understand and gather crucial information about bird population and migration. Meet at 10 a.m. at Terrace Park to observe local birds. Registration is required for the free event, and can be completed here.
