Feb. 1-2: High school art

The annual Augustana High School Invitational is a long-standing tradition at the university’s Eide/Dalrymple Gallery, celebrating art created by regional high school art students. This year’s invitational includes 16 schools and 32 art instructors, who selected up to three works produced by their students in the past year. You can see the 93 works of art in a wide range of materials and subject matter on Thursday and Friday. A gallery reception will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, with an awards ceremony at 7:30 p.m. in the Hamre Recital Hall.

Feb. 1-3: Legendary theater

The Good Night Theatre Collective presents the world-premiere original musical “Legendary Adventure” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Washington Pavilion’s Belbas Theater. It’s the story of a humble blacksmith who is the subject of a prophecy and features magical creatures, villainy, sorcery and laughter. Feb. 2: Dakota Wind Quartet

The Dakota Wind Quintet will perform at noon Friday at the Old Courthouse Museum for its Winter Concert Series. It is free to attend. Next week’s performer is Marty DeWitt. Performances take place in the historic courtroom.

Feb. 2: Free Friday

Join the Washington Pavilion for Free First Fridays whether you are new to the area, new to the Pavilion or a regular visitor. From 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, the Pavilion is offering free admission to the Kirby Science Discovery Center and Visual Arts Center. The fun includes science activities at Avera Stage Science and demonstrations with science center interactors, scavenger hunts and artist receptions in the Visual Arts Center and discounted tickets to educational films in the Wells Fargo CineDome. Register in advance to ensure museum admission.

Feb. 2: Snow Ball

SiouxperCon will host its inaugural Siouxper Snow Ball celebrating the “coolness” that is cosplay. Doors to the Icon Events + DaDa Gastropub will open at 6 p.m. Friday, with the grand entrance at 7 p.m. Snow Ball royalty will be announced at 10 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. Dress in your finest cosplay, or come as you are. Proceeds from this gala help defray the costs of SiouxperCon’s annual convention, allowing it to increase donations to partner charities. Epic Sounds by CJ will provide the music.

Feb. 2-3: Fun Ski

The 25th annual Media One Funski, a fundraiser for the Children’s Home Shelter for Family Safety, will run Friday and Saturday at Great Bear Ski Valley. Friday’s events include: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., snow sculpture contest; 7 to 9:30 p.m., Family Safety Tubing Night; 7 p.m., rail jam for skiers and snowboarders; and 8:30 p.m., Tomboy performing live music in the chalet. Saturday includes a cross country ski race 5K at 8 a.m., weather permitting; a fat tire bike race at 10 a.m.; the Race for Safety Giant Slalom at 12:30 p.m., the snowboard Giant Slalom at 2:30 p.m. and the Zipfy sled races at 4 p.m. Most skiing and boarding events have beginner, intermediate and advanced categories.

Feb. 3: Greenhouse yoga

Decompress and escape from winter with this yoga session at Landscape Garden Centers. Join Bee Fit yoga flow with Nikki Highby starting at 2 p.m. Saturday, and surround yourself with vibrant plants while you center yourself through movement, breath and shavasana. Smoothies and snacks will be provided by Bee Loved Kitchen, as well as sound healing music tones played on the handpan drum by Emily Wilson. Click here to register.
