All week: State Theatre holiday showings
The State Theatre will be playing a variety of holiday movies this week, and there is guaranteed to be a show for every interest. The “Late Night at the State” showing will be the horror film “Black Christmas” on Dec. 17, and other showings include popular classics like “A Christmas Story” and “It’s a Wonderful Life.” For a full list of showings and showtimes and to purchase tickets, visit siouxfallsstatetheatre.org.

Dec. 16: Men’s Night Holiday Open House
JuLiana’s Boutique La Femme will throw a Men’s Night open house, and not just men are welcome. The open house will consist of live music by Chris Beyer and complimentary wine, beer and snacks. There also will be lots of sales on, including 20 percent off all regular-priced items and gift cards. The event will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. and dressy or business casual attire is recommended.

Dec. 16: Scheels Merry Little Christmas Party
Santa Claus is coming to Scheels, and he’s bringing a party with him. Scheels’ Merry Little Christmas Party will offer a variety of holiday activities, including free hot chocolate, a Christmas coloring table, a free gift wrapping station and a Fill the Firetruck Toy Drive. Guests are encouraged to wear their best ugly sweater when they attend and meet Santa. The event will take place from 4 to 8 p.m.

Dec. 16-19: Christmas at the Cathedral
The 25th annual Christmas at the Cathedral event will have six shows this week, but just two have tickets available. The event, which features the Christmas at the Cathedral choir and orchestra, actress Apolonia Davalos and soloists Shelley Jennings and Shane McConnell, tells the story of Christmas through song. Limited tickets are available for the two shows Sunday. Click here to buy tickets.

Dec. 17: Dakota Wind Quintet
The Dakota Wind Quintet will visit the Old Courthouse Museum as a part of the Old Courthouse Museum Winter Concert Series. They will be performing classical music in the historic courthouse. The Dakota Wind Quintet, which has been performing since 1952, features a flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet and horn. Admission for the concert, which begins at noon, is free.

Dec. 18: Reindeer Games
If you’re feeling competitive this week, the Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Reindeer Games event. Head to the Midco Aquatic Center for holiday-themed games, Christmas songs and photo opportunities. No registration is required, but all participants will need to either have an active swim pass or pay daily admission rates. The event will take place from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Dec. 19: Winter Tween Trek
Get your kids outside, even in the snow, with the Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Department. The Winter Tween Trek will consist of a hike at Arrowhead Park and a search for various winter wildlife. Warm, closed-toes shoes and a water bottle are recommended. The one-hour hike will begin at 10 a.m. Registration is required, costs $5 and can be completed at register.siouxfallsparks.org.

Dec. 19: Luminary Lane
Experience one of Sioux Falls’ oldest Christmas traditions as Luminary Lane returns to the Park Ridge neighborhood.

Homes along Glendale, Hawthorn and Park avenues from 22nd to 26th streets will be glowing by candlelight and invite you to drive or walk through. Lights usually go on by 5:30 p.m. and last until 9:30 p.m., though some candles burn throughout the night.
