The Week Ahead is our hand-picked event guide to upcoming events in Sioux Falls and slightly beyond. For guaranteed placement or to promote your event ahead of time, email jodi@siouxfalls.business about a featured event listing.

Dec. 15-24: Grouchmas

It’s Grouchmas! Sadly, the Grinch-inspired fundraiser for 10 nonprofit organizations that was planned for Thursday night at the Sioux Falls Convention Center with games, food, chances to win prizes and lots of holiday spirit has been changed to a virtual live auction because of the forecast for heavy snow and high winds.

Nonprofits that will benefit include the Toy Lending Library of SouthDakota, Teddy Bear Den, Butterfly House & Aquarium, Stockyard Ag Experience, Rare by Design, Evermore Blooms, Call to Freedom, Emily’s  Hope, Furniture Mission and Safety Village of South Dakota. Find a link here to the live auction, which will continue through Dec. 24.

Dec. 15 and beyond: Crazy4Christmas

John and Katie Myers remain crazy for Christmas. Once again, they’ve decorated their house at 27th Street and Hawthorne Avenue –– plus some of the neighbor’s yard — with hundreds of holiday inflatables. They also have synchronized music and a mailbox that goes directly to Santa. Hours through Christmas are 6 to 9:30 p.m.

Dec. 17: Santa’s coming

Santa’s making a special appearance from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at Yakkity Yak Coffee Shop & All American Gymnastics Academy, 7321 S. Grasslands Place. A sensory friendly/adapted gym will be offered from 8 to 8:45 a.m with a limited number of participants, and All Stars open play for kids who are walking up to age 5 will be from 9 to 9:50 a.m. In addition to visiting with Santa, children can write letters or color pictures. Breakfast and coffee will be served at Yakkity Yak, a coffee shop run by people with intellectual disabilities.

Dec. 17:  Fire + Ice

Drop by BronzeAge Art Casting, 1110 N. Weber Ave. on Saturday for Fire + Ice 2022. During the free event, spectacular, fiery performance sculptures will light up the night.

Inside, you’ll find a pop-up creative gift market, desserts and hot cider. Rain or snow, the event runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Dec. 18: Live Nativity

The Table Ministry will bring a live Nativity with camels and donkeys, along with carols, hot chocolate, cider, Santa and holiday fellowship. It will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot at Shenanigan’s Sports Bar & Grill, 1903 S. Ellis Road.

Dec. 18: Luminary Lane

One of Sioux Falls’ oldest holiday traditions will begin at dusk Sunday when Luminary Lane lights up. Luminaries filled with lighted candles will glow until 9:30 p.m. on Park and Glendale avenues from 22nd to 26th streets. It is accessible both by car and on foot.

And if you’re out looking at lights, we’ve got you covered with this guide no matter where in town the drive takes you!
