Aug. 27: The Backartigans “Welcome to Art Camp”

The Backartigans, a regular pop-up art show that usually takes place in a backyard, will be having its big end-of-summer bash, called “Welcome to Art Camp.” According to the Backartigan’s Instagram page, it’s set to be the biggest show yet, with light catering and refreshments as well as live music. The show will take place on Aug. 27 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Sioux Falls Art Council Building, located at 326 E. 8th St.

Aug. 27: Fiddles and Friends

South Dakota Public Broadcasting is hosting Fiddles and Friends on Aug. 27, a touring show that features fiddlers Kenny Putnam, Tom Schafer and Owen DeJong. The event will take place in the newly constructed Riverview Barn, which is located near Arrowhead Park and the Mary Jo Wegner Arboretum. Aug. 28: That Sounds Decent

Music festival That Sounds Decent is returning this weekend after its cancellation last summer. The free event will feature over seven hours of live music including sets by Later Babes, Sun Daze and Habeas Porpoise and food trucks from Kota Cafe, Chubby’s and Big J’s Roadhouse. That Sounds Decent will begin at 3 p.m. at 8th and Railroad on Aug. 28 and is suitable for all ages.

Aug. 28-29: Tuthill Mountain Bike Festival

 The Tuthill Mountain Bike Festival will be taking place over two days this week, and the event is jam-packed with competitive, novice and community races. The Mountain Bike Festival typically contains multiple events, and this year it will have Time Trial, Hill Climb, Tuthill Flats Twilight Crit and Cross-Country races for both men and women. There will also be a community race that is free and open to the public taking place at 5:45 p.m. on Aug. 28. The festival will take place Aug. 28 and 29, and registration for the competitions is open until 30 minutes before each event. If you’d like to register for any event, you’ll need a USA Cycling license and can register at https://www.bikereg.com/tuthill-mountain-bike-festival.

Aug 28-29: Sioux Falls Polo Club Centennial Cup

The Sioux Falls Polo Club will be hosting the USPA Centennial Cup this weekend at their location just east of town. The qualifying matches for the finals will take place at 12 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 28 and finals will take place on Aug. 29, with the consolation cup at 12 p.m. and the final at 1:30 p.m.  The matches are open to the public and will take place at the Windrows Tournament Field.

Aug. 29: Birding Hike

If you’re looking for a relaxing way to spend your Sunday morning, Sioux Falls Parks has an activity for you- a birding hike. The hike is open to those 55 and older, and will take place at Great Bear on Aug. 29 at 7:30 a.m. Participants are asked to bring a journal, pencil and binoculars to spot the birds. Registration is required, tickets are $8 and you can register at https://register.siouxfallsparks.org.
