The Week Ahead: April 21-27
The Week Ahead is our hand-picked event guide to the next seven days in Sioux Falls and slightly beyond. For guaranteed placement or to promote your event ahead of time, email [email protected] about a featured event listing.
April 21: Author Talk with David Heska Wanbli Weiden
Visit the Orpheum Theater Center for the last event of Siouxland Libraries’ One Book Siouxland Series. Joining the event will be David Heska Wanbli Weiden, author of “Winter Counts.” There will be a Q&A session hosted by Vernon Brown, and copies of the book will be available for sale, with a signing at the end. Before the discussion, there will be an interactive exhibit on the importance of buffalo to the Lakota people as well as a performance by the Wakpa Ipaksan Youth Singers. The event will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday. To register for the event, click here.

April 21: How to Travel
Join the Great Outdoor Store for its How to Travel Series. On the third Thursday of every month, a new individual is highlighted and tells his or her story of a recent adventure. You’ll hear the ups, downs and everything in between, and maybe learn a little bit too. This month’s guest is Ian Peterson, who will be speaking about his trip to Havasu Falls, Arizona. The event will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Great Outdoor Store, 201 E. 10th St.

April 22: Mayor’s Fitness Kickoff
Get your workout gear ready and join Mayor Paul TenHaken and others on the first day of his fitness challenge. The challenge? Run, bike, walk – or even kayak – 100 miles in 100 days. The special kickoff event will take place at noon Friday at the Levitt Shell. You’ll then run or walk a mile to start off the challenge. To participate in the challenge and be eligible to win prizes during the 100 days, log your miles in your preferred fitness tracker and post selfies with the hashtag #100days100milesssf. For information visit siouxfalls.org.

April 22-23: Junkin’ Market Days
The popular Junkin’ Market Days event will return Friday and Saturday to the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds. This traveling indoor market offers one-of-a-kind items from dozens of vendors, ranging from local makers to those from across the country. Boutique clothing, home decor, jewelry and much more are featured. The event will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. To purchase tickets for $5, click here.

April 23: Blind Bid Battle
Game Chest is hosting its second annual Blind Bid Battle for used games. Sell items that you no longer want or need for store credit, and for the buyers, buy gently used games at a good price. A “blind” bid means that no two bidders will know each other’s bid; the Game Chest says to “bid with your heart!” Available for auction will be everything from games to accessories to puzzles. The auction will take place from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, both in store and online.

April 23: Teddy Bear Picnic
In honor of National Picnic Day, bring your kids and their favorite teddy bear to McKennan Park from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday. Pack a picnic lunch, and enjoy a performance from Phil Baker.

April 23: Record Store Day
Celebrate Record Store Day and Last Stop CD Shop’s 27th anniversary Saturday. You’ll begin the day at 8 a.m. with coffee, doughnuts and exclusive Record Store Day releases from popular artists. Then, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., visit with Siouxpercon and take place in a retro video game tournament, with prizes up for grabs.

Throughout the day, enjoy food from the Old Skool Jersey Rippers & Balls food truck and beer from Look’s Beer Co. Later in the evening, there will be live music from Doktor Barkey and Sun Daze. For a full schedule of the day, click here.
