Sioux Falls Taco Festival is off
You’ll have to wait at least another year for a nationally touring taco and margarita festival – and based on some feedback, you might not want to get your hopes up.
The Sioux Falls Taco Festival was supposed to be held Aug. 28 at Bigs Bar, 3110 W. 12th St.
The bar confirmed it’s no longer happening this weekend.
The event is part of a national series of taco and margarita festivals produced by Arizona-based AZ Food Festivals.
It typically had organized bar crawls but shifted to the outdoor food festivals during the pandemic. Earlier this year, founder Adam Dobres told Pigeon605 the event would bring more than a dozen types of tacos, eight varieties of margaritas and other food and beverage options.
The Facebook page for Sioux Falls shows it has been moved to July 22-24, 2022, but that organizer is shown as American Events Schedule, so it’s unclear if the listing is legitimate. Bigs Bar has not rebooked it for that date. The original organizers didn’t respond to questions.
The company’s schedule shows several remaining taco fest events nationwide into November.
But not all have drawn rave reviews. The Des Moines Taco Fest was held on a downtown bridge in late July. According to the website Iowastartingline.com, “attendees complained about long lines, an overly packed venue, how disorganized the event was, lack of margarita options, vendors not accepting VIP free taco tickets, and country music acts being booked to play. A few also complained of food poisoning.”
The event page for Des Moines also was filled with complaints and no response from organizers.
Meanwhile, if you do want to go to Bigs Bar this weekend, “Them Dirty Roses” is playing Aug. 27 at 8 p.m. and a rescheduled “Seckond Chaynce” in Aug. 29 at 8 p.m.
