Amazing things happen in our schools every day — if you know where to look! Do you know some school news others would love? Let us know at [email protected].

Pennies can really add up! Check out the results of a “Penny War” in the Tri-Valley School District. Efforts benefited Heather Siemonsma, an educational assistant battling colon cancer.

We’re writers, so, of course, we had to include this: Fifth graders at Eugene Field Elementary shared their writing from the Author’s Chair.

What better than to be a preschooler learning about pumpkins? Love the scene from Sioux Falls Lutheran School.

Christ the King Elementary kindergarteners and fourth graders helped each other with a service project for the Avera McKennan NICU. They made fleece tie blankets for babies and families, and included a St. Gerard prayer card.

Happy 30th birthday, John Harris Elementary!

Lowell Elementary enjoyed its fall festival this week — with help from volunteers and food courtesy of First Lutheran Church!

And finally, R.F. Pettigrew Elementary could use some help. The school at 7900 W. 53rd St. is in need of clothing donations for students who have bathroom accidents during the school day. “The supply we had is completely depleted,” the school posted on Facebook.

“Our greatest need is pants in sizes 6-8 that are stretchy, like sweat pants or leggings. Smaller sized socks and new underwear are also appreciated. If you would like to donate these items, please drop them off in the office. Old or new, makes no difference!”
