Amazing things happen in our schools every day — if you know where to look! Do you know some school news others would love? Let us know at [email protected].

It’s the 100th day of school and the first grade teachers at John Harris Elementary channeled their future centenarian selves. From left to right: Mrs. delaMontanya, Mrs. Lyngstad, Mrs. Dykstra, Mrs. Loutsch and Mrs. Doering

They fast-forwarded to 100-year-olds at Lowell, Sonia Sotomayor and Eugene Field Elementary too.

“Court” was in session at Eugene Field Elementary as fifth graders gave opening arguments on whether kids should have cellphones and their classmates awaited a verdict.

Sioux Falls Lutheran School now is more visible driving over nearby Interstate 29 thanks to the new sign on the northwest side of the building.

We want one of these! Thanks to a John Harris PTO grant, several classrooms received “brain bins.” They are used as a brain break and allow students to foster creativity, teamwork/collaboration and problem-solving.

It’s so important to give kids meaningful experiences outside of school too. Thanks to the Promising Futures Fund these second graders from Lowell Elementary got to go bowling at Suburban Lanes.

And finally, many schools recognized National Counseling Week, but this was an especially powerful image from Washington High School.“Warrior Nation” showed gratitude and appreciation by peppering the counseling office with notes of thanks. These are just a few samples of the difference counselors make and how important they are to students.
