Road Report: Week of Nov. 15, 2021

Construction season is here, so we’re giving you a weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s underway

Madison Street is closed by Covell Lake to allow crews to perform underground utility improvements. Work is expected to be completed by Thanksgiving.

Both lanes of eastbound traffic are open on 49th Street between Louise and Oxbow avenues. One westbound lane remains closed as the contractor finishes cleanup work, topsoil placement and seeding. The remaining work should be done in a week or so.

Work on Minnesota Avenue south of 57th Street is expected to be completed and open to traffic by the end of this week. The traffic signal at Ralph Rogers Road will be installed later this winter when it arrives.

Work on 26th Street near I-29 is still expected to be completed by Thanksgiving.

Work on 12th Street near I-29 will be temporarily completed and fully open to traffic by the end of this week. However, lane closures will be in place again if the weather allows after Thanksgiving for additional repair work.

The outside lanes on the Madison Street bridge, east of Louise Avenue, are closed for maintenance work. This is expected to be completed in about one week.

What’s next

The Sioux Falls Public Works Department continues to look ahead to 2022 — while readying for snow removal season, of course.
