Road Report: Oct. 7, 2024
Construction season is here and so is our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s underway
85th & Sundowner: Work is nearing completion at the intersection of 85th Street and Sundowner Avenue.

The paving is nearly complete, and the intersection is expected to reopen to traffic later this month.

Grading work is also underway on 85th Street west of Sundowner Avenue. Crews will work to grade what they can this fall before installing gravel to allow local access through the winter.

Work will begin next spring on finalizing the grading and paving.

85th & Heritage/Ellis: Work also is underway for the temporary traffic diversion at 85th Street and Heritage Parkway/Ellis Road that will be used next year while the roundabout at this intersection is constructed.

All work on this project is expected to be complete in the fall of 2025.
Tallgrass Avenue: Work also is nearing completion on Tallgrass Avenue between 74th and 85th streets.

The mainline paving is complete.

The contractor is working on paving in the median, finishing the sidewalks and installing the lighting system.

All work on this project is expected to be complete in late October or early November.

Cleveland Avenue: Sidewalk construction began on the east side of Cleveland Avenue between Sixth and Eighth streets Oct. 2. Traffic will be maintained at all times, but the northbound lane on Cleveland will be narrowed, and the northbound right turn lane will be closed on Cleveland at Sixth. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
Marion Road: The northbound lanes on Marion Road closed between Vision Drive and Maple Street on Oct. 3 to allow crews to install underground utilities. Traffic will be maintained in the southbound lanes. This work is expected to be complete in about two weeks.
41st Street: On Oct. 4, 41st Street closed east of Six Mile Road to allow crews to pave a portion of 41st. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
What’s next
26th Street: Beginning today, the outside westbound lane of 26th Street will be closed between Village Square Circle and Cleveland Avenue to allow crews to perform sidewalk repairs. This work is expected to be complete in about two days.
Russell Street frontage road: Beginning today, the southern Russell Street frontage road will be closed between Bailey Street and Prairie Avenue to allow crews to work on underground utilities. This work is expected to be complete by the end of the week.
Phillips Avenue: Beginning Tuesday, Phillips Avenue will be closed between 14th and 18th streets to allow crews to perform warranty repairs. This work is expected to be complete by the end of the week.
I-90: Beginning Tuesday, the Interstate 90 westbound off-ramp — Exit 396A — at the I-90 and I-29 interchange will be closed to allow crews to grade and widen the off-ramp. Traffic will be detoured to I-229. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
Minnesota Avenue: Beginning Wednesday, the outside northbound lane on Minnesota Avenue will be closed north of 57th Street to allow crews to work on underground utilities. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
I-90: Beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday, the eastbound and westbound lanes on I-90 will be closed and traffic diverted through the on- and off-ramps at Highway 11 in Brandon, Exit 406. This traffic diversion will be maintained until 6 a.m. Thursday. This traffic pattern switch is being scheduled to remove forms from the exit bridge. Traffic on Highway 11 will be maintained during this overnight traffic diversion. Flaggers will be posted to guide Highway 11 traffic as interstate traffic will have priority through this traffic pattern shift. Depending on the work completed during the first night, motorists should be aware that a second night of traffic diversion is possible.
