Road Report: Week of Oct. 25

October 25, 2021

Construction season is here, so we’re giving you a weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s done

Work in the intersections at 26th and Sertoma and at 26th and Marion was completed Wednesday.

What’s underway

Last week, Sixth Street closed at Lowell Avenue for underground utility repairs. Work is expected to be completed in two to three weeks.

Work on 41st Street between Marion Road and Holbrook Avenue is on schedule to be completed in early November.

Iowa Civil Contracting is starting a state Department of Transportation project on southbound Interstate 29 to smooth out pavement on the ends of the bridge over Skunk Creek, just north of the 26th Street exit. Traffic will be reduced to two lanes through the construction, which is expected to take two weeks. Drivers are advised to expect congestion between 12th and 26th streets where ramp traffic will have a reduced area to merge into the southbound traffic.

What’s next

The city already has started looking ahead to road project planning in 2022!

But, of course, there’s snow season first. Don’t forget to vote for your favorite painted plow here.
