Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s done

Marion Road: The mill and overlay work on Marion Road between Maple Street and 60th Street North was completed early last week.

Rice Street: The mill and overlay work on Rice Street between Cleveland Avenue and Veterans Parkway was completed late last week.

What’s underway

I-229 & Cliff: Progress continues at the Cliff Avenue and Interstate 229 interchange.

Most of the paving along I-229 and Cliff is complete.

The bridge deck concrete was poured in late September, and the contractor is working on the bridge approaches between the bridge and the rest of I-229.

The southbound off-ramp is complete, and crews are  working on paving the southbound on-ramp. Additional lighting and storm drainage work is in progress as well.

The permanent traffic signals along Cliff at 38th and 41st streets are expected to be installed after they are delivered to the project sometime in November.

All lanes are expected to reopen to traffic for the winter in late November.

Work will begin again in the spring of 2026 to complete the south half of the interchange reconstruction.

All work is expected to be substantially complete in late 2026 and be fully complete in the spring of 2027.

26th Street: Concrete repairs are in progress along 26th Street between Marion Road and Sertoma Avenue.

Westbound traffic is reduced to one lane, but eastbound traffic is not impacted. In the upcoming weeks, the location of the lane closures will vary between Marion and Sertoma.

At a minimum, one lane of traffic in each direction will remain open at all times. These concrete repairs are being completed this fall ahead of an anticipated mill and overlay project in a future year.

This year’s work is expected to be complete in November.

20th Street: The westbound lane of 20th Street closed between Cliff and Seventh avenues on Oct. 8 to allow crews to perform utility work. Westbound traffic is being maintained in the center turn lane. The sidewalk along the north side of 20th also is closed, with pedestrian traffic being detoured to the sidewalk on the south side of the street. This work is expected to be complete this week.

Minnesota Avenue: The outside northbound lane and east sidewalk of Minnesota Avenue closed between Eighth and Ninth streets on Oct. 9 to allow crews to perform construction work. Northbound traffic is being maintained in the inside northbound lane. Pedestrian traffic is detoured to the west side of the street. This work is expected to be complete this week.

Kiwanis Avenue: Intermittent lane and sidewalk closures on Kiwanis Avenue between 18th and 22nd streets began on Oct. 9 to allow crews to perform utility work. The location of these lane closures will vary as the work progresses. This work is expected to be complete in mid-November.

Cleveland Avenue: The northbound left turn lane on Cleveland Avenue closed at 10th Street on Oct. 10 to allow crews to make repairs to a sanitary sewer manhole. This work is expected to be complete this week.

What’s next

Bahnson Avenue: Beginning today, the southbound lane of Bahnson Avenue will be shifted into the left turn lane just north of 41st Street to allow crews to complete curb and gutter repairs. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

Veterans Parkway: Beginning today, the outside southbound lane of Veterans Parkway will be closed south of 41st Street to allow crews to complete concrete repairs. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

41st Street: Beginning today, the outside westbound lane of 41st Street will be closed between Gibson Avenue and Westbrooke Lane to allow crews to complete sidewalk repairs. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

26th Street: Beginning today, the eastbound lane of 26th Street will be closed at Dorothy Avenue to allow crews to perform accessible curb ramp repairs. Eastbound traffic will be maintained in the center turn lane. The sidewalk on the south side of 26th Street also will be closed during this work. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured around the work zone. After the work on the south side of 26th is completed, work will shift to the north side of 26th  – then, the westbound lane of 26th will  be closed at Dorothy Avenue, with westbound traffic being maintained in the center turn lane, and the sidewalk on the north side of 26th will be closed. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

33rd Street: Beginning on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m., 33rd Street will be closed at Western Avenue to allow crews to perform sanitary sewer repairs. Traffic should use 26th or 41st streets as alternate routes. Traffic on Western will not be impacted, but no turns from Western onto 33rd will be allowed. This work is expected to be complete by the end of the day.

Eighth Street: Beginning on Tuesday, the westbound right turn lane on Eighth Street will be closed at Phillips Avenue to allow crews to perform pavement repairs. The north side of the sidewalk along Eighth between the Big Sioux River and Phillips Avenue also will be closed. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured to the sidewalk on the south side of the street. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
