Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s Underway

The southbound lanes on 2nd Avenue between 12th Street and 13th Street closed on May 5 to allow for construction of a new building. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained in the northbound lanes.  Parking will be closed on the south side of 12th Street between 1st Avenue and 2nd Avenue, and on the east side of 1st Avenue just south of 12th Street.  This work is expected to be complete in mid-2024.

Good progress is being made at the 41st Street & I-29 interchange.

The bridge deck on the south side of the street has been removed, and all pavement removals are complete on the north side of 41st Street east of I-29.

Crews are currently installing watermain, starting work on a retaining wall adjacent to one of the interstate ramps, and are working on the bridge.

Work is still on track to be complete in the spring of 2024.  For additional details, visit the project website at https://www.41stddi.com.

Good progress is also being made on the project at 85th Street and Cliff Avenue.

Site grading and underground utility installation are in progress.

85th Street traffic is being detoured to 69th Street, and Cliff Avenue traffic is being detoured to Minnesota Avenue.

This project is still on track to be complete before school starts in August.  You can sign up to receive monthly email updates for this project at https://www.siouxfalls.org/85th-cliff-update.

What’s Next

Beginning on May 8, concrete repairs will begin at the intersection of Ninth Street and Phillips Avenue. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained at all times.  This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

Beginning on May 8, the outside southbound lane on Minnesota Avenue will be closed at 25th Street to allow crews to perform a concrete pavement repair. One southbound lane of traffic will be maintained during construction. Northbound traffic on Minnesota Avenue will not be impacted. The sidewalk on the west side of Minnesota Avenue will also be closed between 24th Street and 25th Street. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured to the east side of Minnesota Avenue.  This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

Beginning on May 8, the eastbound lane of 22nd Street will be closed from Kiwanis Avenue to Lincoln Road to allow crews to perform concrete pavement patching. Eastbound traffic will utilize the center turn lane.  This is the first phase of a project to perform concrete pavement patching on 22nd Street between Kiwanis Avenue and Minnesota Avenue.  The lane closure locations will vary as the work progresses.  One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained at all times.  This work is expected to be complete in six to eight weeks.

Beginning on May 8, North Sycamore Avenue will be closed from 60th Street North to Benson Road to allow crews to complete roadway improvements.  Work is anticipated to be completed by the end of May.

Beginning on May 11, concrete repairs will begin at the intersection of Sixth Street and Cleveland Avenue. The outside lanes on 6th Street will be closed from I-229 to Shepherd Avenue, and the outside lanes on Cleveland Avenue will be closed north and south of Sixth Street for approximately 650 feet.  Over the next several months, work will continue east on Sixth Street to Sycamore Avenue.  One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained at all times.  This work is anticipated to be complete in October.
