Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s underway

Minnesota Avenue: Crews are making good progress on the Minnesota Avenue project between Second and Eighth streets.

Crews are nearly done with the underground utility work on the east side of Minnesota north of Fourth Street.

Grading, electrical and fiber optic work will begin in that segment this week.

Concrete paving on the east side of Minnesota north of Fourth should begin within the next two to three weeks, weather permitting.

Sanitary sewer and storm drainage pipe installation is in progress on the east side of Minnesota south of Fourth and will continue for the next couple of weeks.

After the underground utility work is complete in this segment, crews will start grading work here as well.

The overall project will be substantially complete and all lanes open to traffic by late November.

Landscaping and cleanup work will take place next spring.

I-29 & 85th: Crews are making good progress at the new interchange on Interstate 29 at 85th Street.

East of the interstate, underground utility work is complete, the pedestrian underpass is nearing completion, and the geofoam, a lightweight fill material, has been installed.

West of the interstate, the geofoam has been installed, and other grading work is in progress.

Underground utility work on the west side of the interstate will begin in about one month.

The bridge piers that will support a bridge over the on-ramp from southbound Interstate 229 to southbound I-29 are complete as well.

Work on the interchange project is expected to be complete in late 2027.

Louise Avenue: Work is in progress on sidewalk repairs that require lane closures on Louise Avenue between 49th and 53rd streets.

Work on the east side of Louise was completed last week and has shifted to the west side of the street.

The sidewalk in this area is being replaced to meet accessibility requirements for pedestrians.

Northbound traffic is no longer being impacted.

The current work impacting southbound traffic is expected to be complete by the end of the month.

What’s next

Minnesota Avenue: Beginning today, the outside northbound lane of Minnesota Avenue will be closed between La Quinta Circle and 69th Street to allow crews to complete concrete repairs. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

Cleveland Avenue: Beginning today, Cleveland Avenue will be closed between 19th and 22nd streets to allow crews to perform utility work. Traffic will be detoured onto Bahnson Avenue from 18th and 26th streets. The east sidewalk along Cleveland also will be closed between 19th and 22nd. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured to the east along Gary Drive. This work is expected to be complete in two to three weeks.

26th Street: Beginning today, 26th Street will be closed to westbound traffic between West and Garfield avenues to allow crews to perform utility work. The north sidewalk also will be closed between Garfield and Lincoln avenues. Vehicle traffic will be detoured to 22nd Street, and pedestrian traffic will be detoured to the south sidewalk on 26th. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

Phillips Avenue: Beginning on Tuesday, Phillips Avenue will be closed between Eighth and Ninth streets to allow crews to perform fire hydrant repairs. This work is expected to be complete by the end of the day.
