Road Report: July 28, 2025
Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s underway
Minnesota Avenue: The sidewalk repair project on Minnesota Avenue near downtown is nearing completion.

Work on the east side of Minnesota was completed several weeks ago.

Work on the west side of Minnesota is complete between 11th and 14th streets.

The remaining work on the west side of Minnesota between 14th and 18th streets should be complete in four to five more weeks.

South Veterans Parkway: Progress continues on the South Veterans Parkway project between Cliff and Sycamore avenues.

The dirt grade west of the railroad tracks is now at the proper elevation, so pile driving for the bridge foundation has begun.

Crews are continuing to haul dirt east of the railroad tracks to build up the grade there for the other side of the bridge.

Two pedestrian underpasses are complete, and grading work continues along the corridor.

Sycamore and Southeastern avenues remain closed. Traffic should use Cliff Avenue or Highway 11 as alternate routes. The project won’t be complete until the fall of 2026.

I-90 & I-229: The Interstate 90 eastbound passing lane on the bridge over Interstate 229 closed July 23 to allow crews to place asphalt and install guardrail. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

What’s next
Rice Street: Beginning today, Rice Street will be closed from TJN Recycling at 6511 E. Rice St. to Veterans Parkway to allow crews to apply a slurry seal to the street. This work is expected to be complete in about two days.
57th Street: Beginning today, the outside eastbound lane and the outside westbound lane of 57th Street will be closed intermittently between Old Yankton Road and Sycamore Avenue to allow crews to perform sidewalk repairs. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
Western Avenue: Beginning today, the outside northbound lane and the outside southbound lane of Western Avenue will be intermittently closed between 57th Street and Ralph Rogers Road to allow crews to perform sidewalk repairs. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
Main Avenue: Beginning today, the southbound left lane of Main Avenue will be closed between Ninth and 10th streets to allow crews to lift equipment onto the roof of an adjacent building. This work is expected to be complete by the end of the day.
18th Street: Beginning today, the eastbound through lane of 18th Street will be closed between Blaine and Cleveland avenues to allow crews to perform utility repairs. Eastbound and left-turning traffic will be combined in the eastbound left turn lane. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
Ellis Road: Beginning on Tuesday, lane closures will be in place on Ellis Road between 12th Street and 60th Street North to allow crews to perform an asphalt mill and overlay. A pilot car will guide traffic through the work zone while work is occurring. This work is expected to be complete in about two weeks.
