Construction season is here, and so is our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s done

Traffic signals: The new traffic signals at the intersections of 33rd Street and Veterans Parkway and at 41st Street and Linedrive Avenue have been up and operational for a couple of weeks.

They were finished just in time for the start of school.

What’s underway

Tallgrass Avenue: Crews are making progress on Tallgrass Avenue between 74th and 89th streets to prepare for continued development in this area of town.

Work on this project consists of installing a storm drainage system on Tallgrass Avenue between 74th and 85th streets, paving the intersection of 85th and Tallgrass, and paving Tallgrass from 85th to 89th.

Crews are working on installing the storm drainage system on Tallgrass.

This project will reopen to traffic in late November for the winter.

Construction will resume in the spring of 2024, with final completion in the summer of 2024.

Tallgrass Avenue traffic should use Louise Avenue as an alternate route.

Western & I-229: The South Dakota Department of Transportation is making repairs to the bridge on Western Avenue over Interstate 229 and widening the northbound on-ramp to be able to accommodate a dual left turn lane from southbound Western onto northbound I-229.

Repairs to the east half of the bridge are complete, and the crew is working on the west half of the bridge.

The northbound on-ramp from Western to I-229 is closed. All work is expected to be complete in November.

Ellis Road: Continuing today, the outside northbound and the right turn lane will be closed on Ellis Road just south of 32nd Street. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

What’s next

Beginning today:

Cliff Avenue: The outside southbound lane on Cliff Avenue will be closed north of Otonka Trail to allow crews to perform concrete pavement repairs. One southbound lane will be maintained at all times during construction. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

Dakota Avenue: The western two northbound lanes on Dakota Avenue will be closed south of 10th Street to allow crews to perform a concrete pavement repair. One northbound lane will be maintained at all times during construction. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

34th Street North: 34th Street North will be closed between Highland and Jessica avenues to allow crews to work on underground utilities. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

Cliff Avenue: The outside southbound lane of Cliff Avenue will be closed in various locations between 60th Street North and Chambers Street to allow crews to perform concrete repairs. Each repair location will be limited to a block or two at each location and will move south as the work progresses. This work is expected to be complete in about two weeks.

Phillips Avenue: The sidewalk on the east side of Phillips Avenue will be closed between Second and Fourth streets for the installation of a construction access road for the River Greenway project. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured to the sidewalk on the west side of Phillips for the duration of the project.

Beginning Tuesday:

12th Street: The outside westbound lane of 12th Street will be closed between Grange and West avenues to allow crews to perform sidewalk repairs. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

26th Street: The outside eastbound lane on 26th Street will be closed at Valley View Road to allow crews to repair a gas valve. This work is expected to be complete in about two days.
