Road Report: Aug. 25, 2025
Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s underway
12th Street: Work continues on 12th Street between Ellis and Marion roads.

All the concrete repairs, storm drainage repairs, accessible curb ramp improvements and pedestrian signal infrastructure work is complete. An asphalt overlay is in progress in the westbound lanes.

The work in the westbound lanes should be wrapping up this week, then traffic will be moved to the new asphalt pavement and work will begin in the eastbound lanes and center turn lane.

Joint cleaning and surface preparation will take up to a week, then asphalt paving will take place.

After the asphalt in the eastbound lanes is laid, there will be a week or so of manhole and valve box adjustments before striping occurs and the street is fully open to traffic.

All lanes are expected to be complete and open to traffic by mid-September.

The upgraded pedestrian crossing signals will be installed after they are delivered later this fall.
North Drive: Work is in progress on the bridge over the diversion channel on North Drive near the South Dakota State Penitentiary.

Crews have ground down the existing surface on the north half of the bridge and removed multiple areas of concrete in need of repair.

New concrete will be placed in the repair areas this week, and the concrete overlay on the north half of the bridge will take place soon after that.

After the concrete gains sufficient strength, traffic will be switched to the north half of the bridge in early September so work can begin on the south half of the bridge.

This bridge will be fully closed to all traffic starting in late September or early October for repairs to the bridge approaches and other work that requires a full street closure. This full closure likely will be in place until the project is complete in mid- or late November.
14th Street: The outside eastbound lane of 14th Street closed just west of Minnesota Avenue on Aug. 20 to allow crews to complete storm sewer repairs. This work is expected to be complete by the end of August.
What’s next
14th Street: Beginning today, the outside eastbound lane of 14th Street will be closed between Dakota and Phillips avenues to allow crews to perform accessible curb ramp repairs. Portions of the sidewalk in this area will be closed, and pedestrians will be detoured around the work zone. Lane closures along 14th will progress east as the work moves to the intersections of First and Second avenues. This work is expected to be complete by the end of September.
Highway 148: Beginning today, Minnehaha County Highway 148, also known as 267th Street, will be closed between 463rd and 465th avenues to allow crews to construct a turn lane at the Sioux Falls Regional Landfill entrance. A detour will be set up directing traffic to South Dakota Highway 42, also known as 265th Street, via 463rd and 466th avenues. The landfill will need to be accessed from the west via the detour. This work is expected to be complete by the end of October.
15th Street: Beginning today, 15th Street will be closed at Grange Avenue to allow crews to install a pedestrian crossing signal at the intersection as part of the overall 15th Street bicycle boulevard project. Grange will remain open at all times. All work on this project is expected to be complete in early December.
Veterans Parkway: Beginning today, the northbound right turn lane on Veterans Parkway will be closed at Rice Street. In addition, the outside southbound lane of Veterans will be closed at Rice, and the eastbound right turn lane on Rice will be closed at Veterans. Crews will be boring a sanitary sewer pipe under Veterans. This work is expected to be complete in three to four weeks.
Marion Road: Beginning today, the outside northbound lane on Marion Road will be closed between 25th and 26th streets to allow crews to perform concrete repairs. Southbound traffic will not be impacted. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
Minnesota Avenue: Beginning at 6 a.m. Wednesday, the outside northbound lane of Minnesota Avenue will be closed between 28th and 29th streets to allow crews to install a new sign. Southbound traffic will not be impacted. This work is expected to be complete in one day.
