Restaurant Roundup: Girl Dinner, Christmas in July frozen treats

Ladies night at The Tavern Grill is more than a drink special. Every Thursday through Sept. 10, the restaurant has the Girl Dinner for two for $40. For every order, $1 will be donated to Susan G. Komen, which provides support to breast cancer patients and invests in research to prevent and cure breast cancer.

McNally’s Irish Pub has updated its food and drink menus. New appetizers include short rib nachos, Corned Beef Wellington Bites, walleye cakes, wasabi deviled eggs and house-smoked chicken wings. There’s a berry spinach salad and several sandwiches: Smoked Reuben, Crab Cake Crunch BLT, Midland Chicken Naan, Jalapeno Bacon Hottie and Banger Bratwurst. Entree additions are Irish meatballs, herb-crusted walleye and lemon rosemary salmon. New desserts are Bailey’s cheesecake and a chocolate pistachio torte, which is shown in the photo at the top of this article. In May, the restaurant started making its own smoked corned beef, “which elevates our Reuben and Corned Beef & Cabbage, and it’s the key ingredient in our new Corned Beef Wellington Bites appetizer,” general manager Josh Jacobson said.

Two Make-A-Wish kids – Asher and Amelia — were invited for a cupcake-creating adventure at Oh My Cupcakes. They got to pick the cupcake flavor, filling, frosting and topping, and their creations will be sold today at the nonprofit organization’s golf tournament and the bakery. Some of the bakery’s proceeds will be donated to Make-A-Wish South Dakota & Montana. “The Asher” is a lemon cake with no filling, berry buttercream frosting and M&Ms. Amelia’s “Unicorn Unicorn” is a chocolate cake with a purple vanilla buttercream, M&Ms and sprinkles.

Kids 12 and younger can get a free kids meal on weekdays this summer at Original Pancake House when an adult orders an entree from the lunch or dinner menu.

Crooked Pint Ale House is featuring six smashburgers through Aug. 23. Options include Bacon Jam, Double BBQ Crunch, Animal, French Dipper, Chicago and Peanut Butter. They’re served with a choice of side. See the full menu descriptions here.

Perkins has introduced three smashburgers: Guacamole Bacon, Classic and Mushroom Onion Swiss. There’s also a new Key Lime Drop sponge cake with key lime mousse.

Rev It Up Grille, the restaurant at Thunder Road, is having an in-house burger battle through Aug. 9. Seven cooks are competing, and the winning burger will be featured on the menu for a year.

Parm’d & Dangerous is the pizza of the month at Invictus Pizza Kitchen. The crust is topped with Parmesan garlic sauce, mozzarella, Parmesan, buffalo chicken, bacon bits and green onion.

Polar Bites is celebrating Christmas in July with several holiday seasonal favors featured in frozen treats. They’ll be available for the rest of the month.

And Polar Bites, which is housed in a converted shipping container on 41st Street, also has new limited-time parfait flavors: Cap’n CrunchBerry, Lemon Raspberry and Caramel Oatmeal Cream Pie.

B&G Milkyway in Harrisburg will donate 20 percent of sales on Thursday to Groove Inc. The percussionists will perform right before and after the shop’s ribbon cutting at 4 p.m.

The late Kenny Anderson Sr. was chosen as this year’s addition to the Wall of Notability on an exterior wall at Sunny’s Pizzeria. Anderson was the first Black person elected to the Sioux Falls City Commission. Mural artist Wyatt Dickson added Anderson’s image during Saturday’s Bazaart art show at the restaurant.

Today is the deadline for pre-orders of a cookbook to benefit Pinz in Dell Rapids, which was destroyed in a June fire. Organizers, led by Cricket’s Catering, asked people to submit their grandmothers’ recipes because owner Casey McCoy lost his grandmother’s cookbooks in the fire at the cafe and bowling alley. They collected 270 recipes. Books will cost $20 and will arrive in mid-August, with a limited number available for purchase then. Fill out an order form here.

Changes in hours, service

• Cherry Rock Farms south of Brandon is open for the season on Tuesday through Sunday.
• Short on cooks, The Gulch will be closed on Mondays. On Tuesdays, the kitchen will be open until 4 p.m., and only pizzas will be available after that.
• The Taco Vault in Worthing is closed through Friday.
