My 605: Katie Ashmore
What’s home unless you make it your own? My 605 takes you inside the lives, loves and little secrets of those who call South Dakota – area code 605 – home.
This week’s edition features Katie Ashmore, who works in business development for Schemmer Associates and is the owner of pigeon Callaway.

My home in the 605 is: The 41st West development — I’m a west-sider!
The biggest reason I live in the 605 is: I love our state! I was born in Rapid City and live in Sioux Falls. And I have a job that I love as business development for Schemmer Associates, an architecture and engineering firm.
After home, I spend the most time here: The golf course or the office — some say they are the same thing.

When I need to get away, you’ll find me: On a golf course or golf range somewhere.
The best meal I ever ate in the 605 was at: Crawford’s: Parmesan-crusted walleye with their risotto. I now need to order that for dinner because I’m thinking about it!

My go-to coffee shop is: Josiah’s, but I don’t drink coffee. Their iced tea is the most amazing, and I love seeing all the different people when I’m there.
My favorite place to grab an adult beverage in the 605 is: McNally’s or TommyJack’s. Depends on the day!

When I need to experience the great outdoors, you’ll find me: Home in the Black Hills cruising Needles Highway or Spearfish Canyon. The views are spectacular and really help to ease your mind of any stress or issues you’re facing.
The spot I’d recommend for a date is: Romantic date: Morrie’s. Activity date: Thunder Road or golfing.
The best pizza in the 605 is: I’m not a huge pizza fan, but Papa Woody’s has some amazing selections!
When my friends and I get together, you’ll probably find us: McNally’s, golfing or Lake Poinsett.

The place you never can go wrong taking kids is: YMCA Leif Ericson Day Camp!
When I want to meet new people in the 605 I go: Josiah’s, local breweries or any of the various chamber networking events.
My best memory in the 605 is: Anything I’m doing with Scott and my family. I’d say my favorite memory would be playing golf with my dad at Arrowhead in Rapid City.

The one thing I’m least crazy about in the 605 is: We have all four seasons in one day. ONE DAY! Wake up, it’s fall. Midmorning, spring. Early afternoon, hottest summer we’ve ever experienced. Nighttime, winter or rain.
And finally, life in pictures. Here are the top three photos that most sum up My 605:
