My 605: Nicole Loe
What’s home unless you make it your own? My 605 takes you inside the lives, loves and little secrets of those who call South Dakota – area code 605 – home.
This week’s edition features Nicole Loe, a digital marketing generalist at the Children’s Home Society of South Dakota and owner of pigeon Wandering Wings. You also might know her from Instagram where she is fashion blogger @wanderernicole.
My home in the 605 is: Just west of downtown near the Pettigrew Home & Museum.
The biggest reason I live in the 605 is: I absolutely love having the amenities of a big city with the feel of a small town. And you’re never more then 20 minutes away from the countryside or a pretty nature walk!

After home, I spend the most time here: I stop to get coffee several times a week near 8th & Railroad Center – whether it’s Starbucks on the River Greenway or Queen City Bakery, it’s a great way to start the workday! I love enjoying a patio drink somewhere on Phillips Avenue after-hours.
When I need to get away, you’ll find me: At my family’s lake cabin near Waubay, South Dakota — probably on the boat with my dad catching fish!
The best meal I ever ate in the 605 was at: One of my most memorable meals was the shawarma and french fries from the Hunny & Bunny food truck after enjoying our downtown bar scene when I was newly 21!
My go-to coffee shop is: When I want a treat, I head to Coffea for a caramel latte. I’ve never tasted a better caramel latte anywhere!
My favorite place to grab an adult beverage in the 605 is: Any brewery with a patio in the summer, but Fernson was the first brewery I fell in love with in Sioux Falls, so it’s often my default.
When I need to experience the great outdoors, you’ll find me: I love visiting the Palisades at least once or twice a year to get a good hike in and enjoy the beautiful scenery!

The spot I’d recommend for a date is: I recently celebrated my anniversary on the patio at Ode to Food and Drinks – the view of the river and Arc of Dreams was spectacular, and the food was delicious!
The best pizza in the 605 is: I’ve always enjoyed Skipping Stone Pizza when they’re at events like the farmers market or winery porch concerts.
When my friends and I get together, you’ll probably find us: On the PAve patio BEFORE the late-night rush, splitting a giant pretzel while soaking in some sunshine.
My best memory in the 605 is: Christmastime at Falls Park and downtown. From the Parade of Lights to the Winter Wonderland, it’s always a little more magical when everything is covered in twinkle lights and snow.

The one thing I’m least crazy about in the 605 is: The wear and tear our roads go through every year with our fluctuating weather! Driving in spring is a dangerous game.
And finally, life in pictures. Here are the top three photos that most sum up My 605:
