What’s home unless you make it your own? My 605 takes you inside the lives, loves and little secrets of those who call South Dakota – area code 605 – home.

This week’s edition features Alexis Konstant Mahlen, commercial projects and broker associate at Lloyd Cos. and the owner of pigeon Polly.

My home in the 605 is:  Sioux Falls.

The biggest reason I live in the 605 is: Proximity to family, assortment of activities to do or places to explore and the genuine people!

After home, I spend the most time here: Lloyd Cos. —  at my office in the beautiful Lumber Exchange Building on the Big Sioux River.

When I need to get away, you’ll find me: Next to a body of water, whether it be on a South Dakota lake, visiting my parents near the Gulf of Mexico, or Spearfish Creek.

The best meal I ever ate in the 605 was at: Morrie’s Steakhouse takes the cake.  They have the best steak, and their jalapeno creamed corn is phenomenal.

My go-to coffee shop is: Starbucks. Part of my role at Lloyd Cos. is working with Starbucks throughout South Dakota, and I love to patronize those companies that utilize my team’s commercial real estate services.

My favorite place to grab an adult beverage in the 605 is: Being pregnant has led me to the local mocktail scene, and I love a good patio. Prior to being pregnant, my favorite place to meet up was the Carpenter Bar.

When I need to experience the great outdoors, you’ll find me: If I’m in Sioux Falls, the bike trail is my go-to for walking and biking. My favorite outdoor scene in the 605, however, is exploring the Black Hills, specifically around my hometown of Spearfish.

The spot I’d recommend for a date is: Something involving entertainment or activity, such as witnessing the talents of the performing arts scene at the Washington Pavilion or Orpheum Theater, or cruising the Sioux Falls bike trail. All of this would be leading up to or followed by dinner and drinks downtown. Plus, ending with a sweet treat, perhaps at B&G Milkyway!

The best pizza in the 605 is: West side of the state: Sawyer Brewing Co. and east side: Look’s Marketplace.

When my friends and I get together, you’ll probably find us: Enjoying a glass or two of wine at one of our homes.  If we decide to go out, a staple for girls’ night is Minerva’s. We also meet up annually for Galentine’s Day at Parker’s.

The place you never can go wrong taking kids is: Ask me in a year, and I will have an answer! Also, looking for suggestions.

When I want to meet new people in the 605 I go to: Chamber events, specifically YPN events, nonprofit fundraisers, or friend get-togethers.

My best memory in the 605 is: Being proposed to by my now-husband, Marcus, at the Arc of Dreams followed by an evening together in downtown Sioux Falls.

The one thing I’m least crazy about in the 605 is: The fact that we are still missing a Whole Foods!

And finally, life in pictures. Here are the top three photos that most sum up My 605:
