Plants are more than having a moment — their popularity keeps surging, and there’s a whole garden center waiting to help you bring more green into your home.

“Houseplants just bring people joy,” said Dottie Pratt, interiorscaping and container gardening team lead at Landscape Garden Centers.

“They bring green into the home, and I think they help create a healthier, more relaxing environment.”

The benefits of houseplants are big — from improving air quality to reducing stress and even bolstering cognitive well-being.

“COVID really made people more aware of their space and what plants do for the space because we were spending so much time in our home,” said Laura Kalfs, garden center manager.

“Plants just have the power to create an environment that we enjoy.”

At Landscape Garden Centers, houseplant pros like Kalfs and Pratt are waiting to help with your selection, whether you’re new to plant ownership or in search of more exotic varieties.

“We offer all kinds of plants for people who are very experienced to the person that is just starting in the plant world,” Pratt said. “We have plants for collectors, plants you can keep on the patio in the summer and then bring in the house and plants that do well in low light.”

The container gardening team also helps with seasonal transitions, both for businesses and residents.

“I can design something for you based on your budget and style, and I can come on-site and plant for you there or have your containers brought to us and designed here,” Pratt said.

“We design for early spring, spring-summer, fall and winter, and we get creative. We’ll incorporate things like pumpkins in the fall, so the design can be very unique.”

This also is a great time to stop into the garden center and find some deals.

“You can pick up larger containers down to small indoor containers, and all are marked down up to 75 percent off,” Kalfs said. “So our summer sale has been a big hit for people transitioning their plants for winter.”

This also is “a great time to purchase houseplants and pottery,” she continued. “If you need to plant or update your indoor space, this is a good time to do that going into fall and winter. Our plant and pottery selection cannot be beat.”

Looking for something low-maintenance? The team can help with that too.

“We can help you find plants that don’t need as much water, especially if you have a busy lifestyle or travel a lot,” Kalfs said. “I fill my home with plants that are low-maintenance yet still bring me joy.”

Look for west-, southwest- and even east-facing windows, Pratt added.

“Basically, you can find a plant for any light situation you have in your home,” she said. “Even in a dark room, you can put grow lights in, and it can work depending on where you want to display the plant. In the higher-light areas, you’ll find more success. And we can even help you determine what those areas are in your home. Your houseplants are simply an extension of your personal style and home decor.”

The Landscape Garden Centers greenhouse is filled not just with houseplants but also pottery, moss poles and “things you can use to support and train the houseplant and provide optimum growing conditions in a container,” Kalfs said. “We offer fertilizers and soils for houseplants, small tools for pruning and deadheading, and even indoor-soil amendments. So we’ll help you with not just your plants but also with everything you need to take care of them too.”
