Arriving in character: ‘Pirate’ turns food delivery into memorable experience

Mort Aod isn’t who you’re going to be expecting when your restaurant delivery arrives.

And he’ll quickly become your most memorable driver ever – because there literally will be a pirate on your porch.

Aod decided to move to Sioux Falls from Attleboro, Mass., last year, looking for a less restricted community during the pandemic.

He didn’t arrive with a job, but food delivery proved the right fit – after Aod took a totally unconventional approach to the role.

“I noticed that tipping is not a big part of the culture out here. So I thought, I’ll get creative with this,” he said.

Dubbing himself The Dashing Pirate – with a social media presence to complement the in-person experience – Aod works at least five days a week for a popular food delivery service.

“This was just something I was doing until something better came along,” he said.

“Now, I can’t imagine going back to an office and staring at spreadsheets all day, not dressed as a pirate. This is just something fun and meaningful. And it’s been a wonderful way to get to know my new community.”

And for the rest of the story, you have to see him in action.
