Amazing things happen in our schools every day — if you know where to look! Do you know some school news others would love? Let us know at [email protected].

Here’s a sampling of scenes from the last week of school at John Harris Elementary, Oscar Howe Elementary, O’Gorman High School and Sioux Falls Christian.

It’s a tradition at Lowell Elementary for graduating fifth graders and staff leaving the school to ring the bell.

John Harris Elementary students earned a picnic lunch as part of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, earning 10,000 “Hurricane Hero” slips in May.

The kindergarten class at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary had special visitors to end the school year.

He gets the “good sport of the week” award: Principal Derek Maassen at Hayward Elementary for allowing  600 kids to throw water balloons at him during lunch recess because of their hard work finishing their fun run.

They do know how to have a good time at Hayward. Check out this staff video.

Here’s something for Lincoln High School students to look forward to this coming fall. “Smoothies on the RISE” will be coming from RISE students thanks to a Public School Proud Grant. The students will prepare and serve smoothies — Murphy’s Pat Attack, Red White & Berry and Patriot’s Pride — on-site. They have already started working on their business plan.

And, parents, this one’s for you, courtesy of Discovery Elementary. We’ll return this fall with more school news you’ll love!
