Amazing things happen in our schools every day — if you know where to look! Do you know some school news others would love? Let us know at [email protected].

Wow, what a great way to honor those members of the class of 2021 from the Sioux Falls School District who are entering the military! These students, their families, school principals and Superintendent Jane Stavem gathered following the Armed Forces Day ceremony at the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance on May 15.

Now this is immersive education! Sioux Falls Christian’s Wendy Poppema turned her classroom into an Amazon rainforest, complete with sound effects, for a unit on South America.

Here’s an interesting look at a partnership Raven Industries offers high school students — paid internships while earning high school credit.

Hawthorne Elementary held its annual International Festival to celebrate diversity, where each student can taste candies and snacks from around the world. Tanka Bar contributed buffalo meat sticks with cranberries and wild rice. And Last Stop CD Shop contributed funding and snacks.

Here’s a great way to wind down the school year — snow cones and SDSU ice cream at Susan B. Anthony Elementary.

And finally, look at the bottom of the statue of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of Peace, at the fifth graders from St. Mary Elementary, who spontaneously prayed together while spending a day last week at Trinity Heights and the Lewis & Clark Interactive Center in Sioux City.
