Mayor: City pools will be open this summer

The plan is to open swimming pools in the city of Sioux Falls as normal this season, Mayor Paul TenHaken said.

“We’re making all the plans for the pools to be open this year,” he said.

“Start planning your summers around pools being open and ready.”

The city’s Parks and Recreation Department is starting to hire for the pools.

Hiring was part of the reason the pools didn’t open last season. As the pandemic hit during the spring and uncertainty loomed, seasonal hiring also was put on hold.

Other summer offerings, including ballfields, also are scheduled to open as normal, TenHaken said.
