Road Report: Oct. 23, 2023
Construction season is here, and so is our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s underway
258th & Marion: Minnehaha County Highway 130, also known as 258th Street, reopened to traffic Thursday.

Construction crews will continue with periodic grading work along the shoulders and ditches and with paving on Marion Road for the next few weeks.

Marion Road remains closed between 258th and 259th streets.

All work on this project is expected to be complete in mid-November.
Sixth Street: Work is nearing completion on Sixth Street between Cleveland and Sycamore avenues.

Diamond grinding of the surface is in progress. This will provide a smoother ride for motorists. After the diamond grinding is complete, crews will reseal all the concrete joints and restripe the street. All work is expected to be complete in early November.
Cleveland Avenue: Crews are replacing the railroad crossings on Cleveland Avenue just south of Rice Street.

City crews are milling and overlaying Cleveland between 10th and Rice streets in coordination with the railroad crossing work. All work is expected to be complete in one to two weeks.
41st & I-29: Work is nearing completion for the year at the 41st Street and Interstate 29 interchange.

All paving work east of the interstate is complete. The northbound off-ramp from I-29 to 41st is expected to reopen to traffic late this week or early the following week.

All lanes of traffic will be restored for the winter.

The interchange will be transitioned to the diverging diamond configuration in the spring next year by removing the temporary asphalt and constructing islands to channel traffic through the interchange.
26th Street: Work is nearing completion on 26th Street between Cleveland and Alpine avenues. Accessible curb ramp work is continuing, and concrete joint cleaning and patching is in progress.

Paving on the north half of the street will be occurring this week. After the street is paved, the rest of the concrete work will be completed, the manholes and valve boxes will be adjusted to finished grade, and the pavement will be striped.
All work is expected to be complete by mid-November.
Beginning today, there will be alternating lane closures at 26th and Sycamore to allow crews to patch the road to prepare the intersection for paving. This work is expected to be complete in one day.
Beginning Tuesday, the north half of the intersections on 26th between Cleveland and Alpine avenues will be closed intermittently to allow crews to perform an asphalt overlay. Detours will be in place during the major intersection closures. East/west traffic on 26th will be maintained at all times. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
What’s next
Beginning today, traffic on 10th and 11th streets downtown will be reduced to one lane to allow crews to inspect sanitary sewer services. This work is expected to be complete in one day.
Beginning today, Phillips Avenue will be closed between Second Street and Falls Park Drive to allow crews to perform underground utility work. This work is expected to be complete in about four weeks.
Beginning Tuesday, K Avenue will be closed just south of Cherokee Street to allow construction crews to perform railroad crossing improvements. Motorists should utilize M and Industrial avenues as alternate routes. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
