June 5: Summer concert series

The Old Courthouse Museum will kick off its summer concert series at noon Friday on the plaza behind the museum. Attendees are invited to bring their lunch. The free concerts will begin with Marty DeWitt: Folk, Farm & Family. Also on the schedule: The Shamrockers, June 12; Mississippi Hot Club, June 26; Tom Watson, July 10; Rowena Ceili Band, July 17; Weary Ramblers, July 24; Trevin Nelson, July 31; Jazzed with Bobby Gripp, Aug. 7; Benny Bassett, Aug. 14; Geoff Gunderson, Aug. 21; and Porch Swing, Aug. 28.

June 5: Mini golf

Open Streets for June on Friday night will include vendors, entertainment and activities, including the chance to play on a special mini golf course. Local groups and businesses created the course specifically for Downtown Sioux Falls Open Streets. You can purchase a commemorative golf ball to use on the course. Putters and scorecards will be provided. Single rounds are $6 per person or $20 for families at the DTSF tent. Open Streets for June will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. on Main Avenue between 11th and 13th streets.

June 6: Yoga in the Park

Yoga in the Park at Lloyd Landing will be offered from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday, hosted by Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation. Additional sessions will be every Saturday through Aug. 27 — except for the Fourth of July. Limited mats are available. The class is free; no registration is required.

June 6: 25th annual Siouxland Renaissance Festival

The Siouxland Renaissance Festival marks a quarter-century from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds. Enjoy live jousting, entertainers, games for all ages, vendors and food trucks — rain or shine. Visit siouxlandrenfest.com for information on tickets and times,

June 6: Violins of Hope

Violins of Hope: Sioux Falls will be presented at 7 p.m. Saturday at Hamre Recital Hall, Fryxell Humanities Center, Augustana University, 2120 S. Grange Ave., hosted by the Mount Zion Congregation.  A post-concert discussion and question-and-answer will follow. Professional and young musicians will perform with instruments rescued and restored from the Holocaust. It also will include poetry and storytelling. Freewill donations will be accepted; seating is limited.

June 8: Summer recreation

The Downtown Residents’ Association is offering casual recreation gatherings on Monday evenings this summer through Sept. 28. Open to the public, the events are designed to be a relaxing space for people to connect through outdoor activities such as wiffle ball, football catch, kickball, soccer, picnicking and hanging out. There’s no registration or sign-up — just show up. It runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the green space “underneath the viaducts.”

Coming up: June 11, 18, 25, 30

Want to go low this month? Take a trip into an active quarry owned by Knife River, and view the modern technology behind quarrying. Admission is free, but space is limited. Sign up at the Old Courthouse Museum, 200 W. Sixth St., or call 605-367-4210. Tours begin at 9:30 a.m.
