Sioux Falls named among small-town ‘secret food destinations’

The Sioux Falls food scene got a nice shout-out from Conde Nast Traveler.

The publication named the city among its top seven small towns that are “secret food destinations.”

“Downtown Sioux Falls is a surprisingly food-forward city,” Conde Nast wrote.

Our local reality show connections were included in its review, from “Top Chef: Just Desserts” winner Chris Hanmer, owner of CH Pattisserie and Parlour Ice Cream, to Sanaa Abourezk, who appeared on Food Network’s “Beat Bobby Flay” and owns Sanaa’s 8th Street Gourmet.

The Phillis Avenue Diner was recognized for its poutine and Elvis Waffle, made with peanut butter fluff, while Parker’s Bistro was mentioned for its wagyu beef, scallop and lobster selections. The publication suggested rooftop drinks at PAve.

Other picks included Harvester Kitchen by Bryan, which was mentioned for its small plates and chislic, and Bread & Circus Sandwich Kitchen, which was deemed “perfect for a pork belly gyro, curry cauliflower sandwich or its calling card – the naughty fries, topped with pork chile verde.”

And for those who prefer to dine at home, Plum’s Cooking Co. was mentioned for the immersive experiences its cooking classes provide.
