Your guide to this year’s Winter Carnival

Get ready for more than a week of ways to make the most out of winter as the Sioux Falls Winter Carnival returns for its fourth annual event.

Winter Carnival runs Friday through Feb. 13 and is organized by the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire with multiple opportunities to support its mission.

Here’s your guide to the fun:

Feb. 4: Fat Tire Bike Race, 6 p.m., Falls Park Farmers Market. Click here to register.

Feb. 5: Ice Cream for Breakfast, all Stensland Family Farms locations, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Feb. 8: Dine at Texas Roadhouse, where the restaurant will make a donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs.

Feb. 11: Skyforce Family Night at the Sanford Pentagon. Kids get in free. Adult tickets are $15 with $5 from each ticket supporting the Boys & Girls Clubs.

On Feb. 12, get ready for an entire day of winter fun:

9 a.m. to 10 a.m.: Zumba with GreatLIFE at Fawick Park. There’s no registration necessary.

10 a.m.: Fat Tire Bike Race at Great Bear Recreation Park. Click here to register.

12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.: Family SnowFest at Spellerberg Park in Sioux Falls and McHardy Park in Brandon. Sharpen  your engineering skills, and construct a sled using only cardboard and duct tape. Bring it to McHardy or Spellerberg parks to test it on the hill. Will it zoom down the hill or not hold up to challenge? Teams will be awarded a variety of prizes, with categories for most creative, fastest, cutest sledder, most likely to fall apart and more. Keep your creativity hat on and build a snowman during the Snowman Building Contest.

3 p.m.: Pets & People downtown stroll at Fawick Park.

9 to 11 p.m.: Lazer tubing at Great Bear Ski Valley.

Feb. 13: Ski and snowboard races at Great Bear Ski Valley beginning at 1 p.m.

Virtual fishing tournament

A virtual fishing tournament is being held through Feb. 13. Here’s what to do:

1. Download the FishDonkey app here or search the app store.

2. Tap: Fish in a Tournament.

3. Join: SF Winter Fishing Tournament.

It’s $20 for entry and free for kids. There will be two youth and four adult winners.

April 23: The signature Frost fundraising gala has been rescheduled to this date because of the spike in COVID-related illness.
