Use the bike trail? The city wants to hear from you

If you take your bike on the city’s recreation trail or use bike lanes on city streets, the city wants to hear from you.

Input from cyclists is being collected to help with an update to the Sioux Falls bicycling master plan.

You’ll be asked basic questions about your riding habits and have the chance to give your input to the city.

You have until the end of the month to do it.

“We’re trying to determine what our priorities should be from the community feedback, so we can start looking at what things we should be doing in the future,” said Sam Trebilcock, the city’s transportation planner.

“What are people really interested in improving in Sioux Falls when it comes to bicycling? Is it important for them to get to the bike trail, or is it important to have more bike trails, to safely bicycle in their neighborhood? All those kinds of things.”

If you have trouble accessing the trail or bicycling in certain areas of town, the city wants to know about it, he added.

Anecdotally, city officials know more people are using their bikes around town.

“With the pandemic, people were trying to find a way to get out and do something, and we saw that this past year, and we’ve seen it again this spring,” Trebilcock said.

The city plans to have its updates done to the bicycling plan before the end of the year.
