Sept. 24: South Dakota Youth Battle of the Bands

Five South Dakota bands of young musicians, including one from Sioux Falls, will compete in the finals of the Youth Battle of the Bands. The contest serves as a precursor to the South Dakota Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. The winning band will get the chance to open the ceremony, as well as a $1,000 prize. The competition will begin at 7 p.m. at the Ramkota Hotel. Tickets are $20 for those older than 12 and free for those 12 and younger. Tickets can be purchased at sdrrma.com/battle-of-the-bands.

Sept. 24-26: Superhero Weekend at the Fall Festival

The Country Apple Orchard is hosting a themed event over the weekend: Villains have taken over the orchard, and it’s your job to save the apples! Kids are encouraged to dress up in their favorite superhero costume, and traditional Fall Festival activities will take place like apple picking and pumpkin carving. Superhero Weekend will take place during regular operating hours at the orchard near Harrisburg.

Sept. 25: Yard to Table Tour de Coop

Homegrown Sioux Empire will be hosting another event as part of its Yard to Table month: the annual Tour de Coop. The event consists of a “coop crawl,” where participants can visit different chicken coop owners in several different areas and learn about the process behind owning a coop. The tour will consist of four coops in Centerville, Tea, Dell Rapids and Sioux Falls, with scheduled times for each stop. Get details here.

Sept. 25: Make your own playdough with Juniper Apothecary

Popular 8th & Railroad vendor Juniper Apothecary is hosting a make-your-own-playdough session – and it’s not just for kids. For an $8 fee, you’ll get the chance to make your own dough and take it home. No sign-up is required for the event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the store, which is along the boardwalk at 401 E. Eighth St.

Sept. 25: Oktoberfest by Remedy Brewing

Remedy Brewing Co. is hosting its annual Oktoberfest in its parking lot with classic favorite events like the stein holding competition, the Bierfest and German food from The Saucy Boys. This year, JJ’s Axes & Ales will host ax-throwing, and Casual Campfire Supply will introduce a new game called Kubb. Sioux Falls-based duo Two White Squares will perform. Events begin at noon. Get the details here.

Sept. 25: Fernsonfest

Fernson Brewing Co. is promising a party unlike any year prior with its annual Fernsonfest from 1 to 11 p.m. at the brewery, 1400 E. Robur Drive. There will be “fair-like festivities,” with a midway full of vendors, local music including Hooks, The Clover Fold, Rock Garden Tour and The Ruralists, and food trucks. Click here for details.

Sept. 25-26: Pumpkin Festival at Riverview Christmas Tree Farm
