The Week Ahead is our hand-picked event guide to the next seven days in Sioux Falls and slightly beyond. For guaranteed placement or to promote your event ahead of time, email [email protected] about a featured event listing.

Sept. 2: Yard to Table Sustainability Series

As a part of Yard to Table month, which lasts all of September, Homegrown Sioux Empire will be hosting events to commemorate the occasion. This week, the event is the Sustainability Series hosted by Siouxland Libraries. Homegrown Sioux Empire members will teach a class on how to cook a full meal using only local ingredients. The event will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the downtown library branch.

Sept. 3: Pork Showdown begins

If you’re a fan of the Downtown Burger Battle, you’ll love this event. DTSF is hosting the inaugural Downtown Pork Showdown, and over a dozen restaurants are participating. The event begins this weekend and will run through the month. It’ll be similar to the Burger Battle you know and love — each restaurant has made a signature pork dish, and the public will be able to rate their favorites throughout the month on the DTSF Digital Passport App. For information on the dishes available and how to vote, visit dtsf.com.

Sept. 3-5: Fall Festival Weekend at Country Apple Orchard

This weekend is the Country Apple Orchard’s opening weekend, and to celebrate, the Fall Festival will be in full swing. The festival will help the orchard bring in its new ownership, as well as open the Sioux Falls area favorite for the fall. According to the Country Apple Orchard website, the orchard will be “more than apples” this year, so expect lots of activities.

Sept. 7: Gone to the Dogs

Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation will be hosting another Gone to the Dogs swimming event, this time at Terrace Park and Laurel Oak pools. Dogs will be able to hang out with others while enjoying the pool. The event will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. No registration is required, and owners are not allowed to swim with their dogs.

Whole month: Sticks and Steel 20th anniversary celebration

Beloved downtown boutique Sticks and Steel is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month. Stop by the store at 8th & Railroad Center  any day through Sept. 20 to enter to win gift certificates and other products, as well as receive a free limited-edition tote bag with any purchase.
