The Week Ahead is our hand-picked event guide to the next seven days in Sioux Falls and slightly beyond. For guaranteed placement or to promote your event ahead of time, email jodi@siouxfalls.business about a featured event listing.

Sept. 1: World Letter-Writing Day

It’s a thing, and we think it’s a great idea. Mark World Letter-Writing Day from 4 to 10 p.m. Thursday at Full Circle Book Co-op, 123 W. 10th St. Swing by and write a letter to a friend. The store will have writing materials available and a selection of postcards for sale. Buy a beer and they will put your letter in an envelope, throw a stamp on it and send it out for you!

Sept. 2-4: Fall Festival at the Country Apple Orchard

Three days of fun await in Harrisburg at the Country Apple Orchard. Admission is $14 for those taller than 35 inches, and season passes are $35. The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday every weekend through October. Attractions include the state’s largest jumping pillows, 150-foot zip line course, sand tractor tire mountain, petting zoo, corn pit, rubber duck races, corn maze, kiddie train rides and more. Pony rides and the apple cannons are extra. U-pick apple bags and pumpkin patch pumpkins are available to purchase. There also will be a Fall Festival beer garden. Sept. 2: S.D.-themed art show

Van Art Studios will host this event from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at 120 N. Phillips Ave. It will feature many artists who submitted pieces for a South Dakota-themed art show. Enjoy a complementary glass of wine while you appreciate South Dakota art.

Sept. 2: 605 Emo Night: First Friday Edition

Come to Icon Lounge, 402 N. Main Ave., at 9 p.m. Friday for what they’re calling the saddest party of your life. Spinning Emo hits all night with themed drinks and a photo booth, plus special guest DJs. It’s for ages 18 and older. Tickets are $10 in advance and $13 the day of the show.

Sept. 4: Magic Art Bus Open House and Friends & Family Benefit

The 605 Magic Art Bus is nearing completion, and you can get a peek at its interactive interior and exterior while creating some fun arts and crafts. Stop by Sport Bowl, 1901 W. Burnside St., from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and you’ll find raffles for a free art class or party. Donations of art supplies are welcome. You also can help by donating here.

Sept. 6: Banned Books and Brews

Learn more about the book “1984,” which has been banned in some places, as part of this monthly series at Remedy Brewing Co., 401 E. Eighth St. You’ll learn history about the book and the topic and then be able to share your thoughts. The event runs from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
