Oct. 10: Pumpkin patch

Celebrate farmers’ hard work at the eighth annual National Farmers Day at the Stockyard Ag Experience’s barn. The free, family-friendly event will feature a pick-and-take pumpkin patch, exhibits, treats and the chance to learn how agriculture affects you. It will run from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday. This event is organized and hosted by the agribusiness division of the Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce.

Oct. 11: Mural reveal

Sioux Falls Food Co+op is one of three recipients for this year’s Fairtrade America Mural Project. After months of collaboration, the mural by local artist Erin Castle will be unveiled Saturday. The celebration will run from 5 to 7 p.m. at 410 W. 18th St. and include live music from Elsa Rae, Ben Gertner and DJ Jaime Bravo, with food by the Co+op Kitchen, Taverns & Tots and Salas Salsas. The artwork features Marie Ronette Botramisy, who grows vanilla in Madagascar for Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, a Certified Fairtrade Brand.

Oct. 11: Trail or treat

Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation is hosting a Not So Scary Trail or Treat from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Jacobson Plaza, 810 N. Phillips Ave. Put on your best costume, and come out to the treat trail through the park’s ice ribbon. Visit local businesses along the park path for treats, games, a photo shoot and crafts while listening to Halloween music. Dress up your furry friends, and visit a separate Woof or Treat trail with treats just for them. Free apple cider and hot cocoa will be served.

Oct. 11: Paint the plow

The 16th annual Paint the Plow event will be at a new location this year: the Great Plains Zoo. It takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. You can vote on your favorite plow in person, and students can enter a sweepstakes drawing for a chance to win a ride to school in a snowplow. The event is free. You also can vote online eventually by clicking here. Online voting ends Oct. 16.

Oct. 13: Native American Day Parade

Dale Chasing Hawk, a member of the Sicangu Lakota and a psychologist with the Sioux Falls School District, will serve as grand marshal for the eighth annual Sioux Falls Native American Day Parade on Monday. This year’s theme is Pezuta Waste Aupi, which means to bring good medicine. There will be a prayer at 9 a.m. at Lyon Park, with a fun run at 10:45 a.m. at 13th Street and Phillips Avenue. The parade will start at 11 a.m. at the same location.
