Oct. 15-17: Oktoberfest at the Country Apple Orchard

Another weekend, another Oktoberfest event. This one’s hosted at the Country Apple Orchard and is suitable for all ages. You’re invited to dress in your favorite lederhosen and participate in all your favorite fall festival events with a German twist. Also, the Orchard’s new beer garden will be open and serving drinks. Oktoberfest will take place all weekend during regular hours.

Oct. 16: Spooky Science

The Washington Pavilion’s annual Spooky Science day will feature seven hours of activities for all ages. This year, new installments include presentations from the South Dakota Ghostbusters and a Jell-O brain supplied by the USD Center for Brain and Behavior Research. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are free for members and those 2 and younger, $14 for adults and $10 for kids age 3 to 17. Tickets can be purchased here.

Oct. 16: Halloween Canvas Painting

Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation is hosting a unique way to decorate your home for Halloween this year — and for years to come. Halloween Canvas Painting will be hosted from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Morningside Community Center, and the event will allow kids and their parents to collaborate on a piece of canvas art. Registration is required and can be completed at register.siouxfallsparks.org. Tickets are $5.

Oct. 16: Elegant Mommy Fall Festival

This event should be fun for kids and parents alike. Elegant Mommy is hosting a Fall Festival that will consist of activities for all ages. A trunk-or-treat will take place as well as fall- and Halloween-themed games, so costumes are encouraged. The Fall Festival will run from 9 a.m. to noon in the parking lot at Elegant Mommy, 207 W. 37th St.

Oct. 16: Spooky Lane Trunk-or-Treat

Want to trunk-or-treat for a good cause this weekend? The Safety Village of South Dakota is having one at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds, and it will be spreading the word about both child and adult safety. Admission is free, and there will be treats, prizes and photo opportunities. The trunk-or-treat will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. up and down Pioneer Lane. Don’t forget to dress up!

Oct. 16: Floating Pumpkin Patch

Here’s an interesting way to get some pumpkins: swim for them. At the Midco Aquatic Center, participants in the Floating Pumpkin Patch event hosted by Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation will get the chance to jump in the pool, pick their pumpkin and then decorate it. $10 tickets cover the cost of admission and the pumpkin, and registration can be completed at register.siouxfallsparks.org. The event will take place from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

Oct. 16: The Abbey Road Band at the El Riad Shrine

Feeling nostalgic? Hear some classic Beatles tunes at the El Riad Shrine. The 13th annual performance by the Abbey Road Band will feature food, drink and, of course, Beatles music. Tickets can be purchased online for $10 or at the door for $12. The event is 21 and older only, and music will begin at 8 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
