Oct. 13: Fireside flannels

It doesn’t have to be flannel, but grab something warm and head out to Good Earth State Park at Blood Run at 7 p.m. Friday. There will be a campfire with games, stories and s’mores. Seating is limited, but you are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.

Oct. 13 and beyond: Haunted House

The Jaycees Feargrounds Haunted House Circus of Horrors will open Friday at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds. It also will be open Saturday, Oct. 20-21, Oct. 27-28 and Oct. 30-31. Throwback Thursday will be Oct. 19, Kids Day will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 22, and Blackout Night is Oct. 26. The ticket window opens at 6:45 p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, hours are 7 p.m. to midnight, with the last ticket sold at 11 p.m. Weeknight hours are 7 to 9 p.m., with the last ticket sold at 8:30 p.m. Halloween night hours are 7 to 10. Oct. 14-15: Quilt show

The Sioux Falls Quilters’ Guild will present Dakota Pieces XVII — Dakota Stars Quilt Show from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. Tickets are $7 at the door. Concessions are available on-site. Saturday will include opportunities to help with piecing for veterans’ appreciation quilts from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. All equipment and supplies are provided.

Oct. 15: Sanderson sisters photo-op

To help celebrate the spooky season, local cosplay superstars The Sioux Falls Sanderson Sisters will stop by Rainbow Comics, 3310 S. Minnesota Ave., from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Have your photo taken with these magically talented ladies along with Binx the cat, cosplayed by Monty. There will be a freewill donation jar for contributions toward All Cats Rescue.

Oct. 17: Dog trick-or-treat

SDK South and The Splash Bark by SDK will host the seventh annual trick-or-treating event from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at SDK South, 27246 Highway 15, Harrisburg. The event is free. It will include “spine-chilling decorations” and vendors offering everything from spooky merchandise to dog treats. There also will be a food truck feast with Southern Perfection BBQ. If you’d like to play in Splash Bark or have a drink at the Tiki Bar, entry is for $10. Come with both you and your dog in costumes.

Oct. 17: Pints with Professors

Pints with Professors featuring Dr. Carrie Olson-Manning will begin at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Remedy Brewing Co. at 8th & Railroad Center, 401 E. Eighth St. Olson-Manning, assistant professor of biology at Augustana University, will talk about her National Science Foundation-funded research and share updates about the biology department and launch of Augustana’s undergraduate program in bioinformatics as both a major and minor — South Dakota’s first.
