May 26: Fridays on the Plaza

Each Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Dakota News Now will host musicians from across the region, performing during the lunch hour on downtown’s 12th Street Plaza. Some of Sioux Falls’ best food trucks will set up along First Avenue to serve lunch. The summer schedule begins Friday with music by Tony DePaolo. Food trucks will include Curbside Delights, ‘Brosia Bowl, Salas Salsas, Krazy Concessions and Let Me Be Frank.

May 26-28: Brandon’s Big Celebration

Celebration United Methodist Church is partnering with Mac’s Carnival and Attractions to present Brandon’s Big Celebration at McHardy Park. Carnival rides, games, live music, carnival food and local food trucks will be part of the weekend.

The Celebration is free to enter; however, wristbands must be purchased to go on any rides. Wristbands are $25 on Friday and Sunday and $35 on Saturday and can be purchased at the event. The sponsors have partnered with the Brandon Food Pantry for a paper product drive. Bring a paper product to the Celebration Tent at the carnival and receive a $3 discount on the purchase of a wristband.

May 27: Falls Art Market

The Falls Art Market will kick off its 2023 season from 8:30 to 1:30 pm. Saturday The event is free, and you’re welcome to stroll the lawn at this outdoor event that features original artwork, artful activities and art demonstrations. It’s dog-friendly. Falls Art Market also will take place on June 24, July 22 and Aug. 26. It all takes place at the BronzeAge Art Casting, 1110 N. Weber Ave., just east of Falls Park.

May 27: Cruisin’ for Critters

J&L Harley-Davidson will host its 24th annual Cruisin’ for Critters Poker Run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at 2601 W. 60th St. N. All money raised will go to the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society. The ride will include six route stops on the outskirts of Sioux Falls. Registration runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at J&L with the final stop at Fresh Horses Saloon in Harrisburg. Prizes will be drawn at 5:30 p.m.

May 28: Summer barbecue

Look’s Marketplace, 500 E. 69th St., will kick off the summer eating and drinking season with a Patio BBQ Party. Tickets are $75 and include ribs, brisket, sausage, chicken, loads of sides and a pour of Look’s Beer Co. house-brewed beer or wine. Food will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

May 29: Memorial Day observance

A Memorial Day program on Monday will collect freewill donations to fund the Veterans Community Project tiny-home village. The event will begin at 10:45 a.m. with a color guard and a program at 11 a.m. Lunch will follow at 11:30 a.m. The event will take place at East Nidaros Lutheran Church, 47560 252nd St., south of Baltic.

May 29: Memorial Day gathering

WoodGrain Brewing Co., 101 N. Phillips Ave., will offer all current and retired military members with military IDs $2 off pints all day on Memorial Day. The event runs from 3 to 10 p.m. From 5 to 8 p.m., musician Todd Casilli will sing a wide variety of songs.

Coming up: June 17

The Retreat at Pointers Ridge will host a jigsaw puzzle tournament for two divisions. The family division will include up to two adults and two kids 13 and younger. Teams in the adult division will have up to four adults. Teams in each division will solve identical puzzles. Puzzling will start at 1 p.m. June 17 and end at 5 p.m. with a short break midway. Sign-up by May 27. Snacks and bottled water will be provided. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top teams, and every team keeps their puzzle. You can register here.
