May 11: Comics trivia

Augustana University professor Emily Roehl will be your guide through an evening that tests your knowledge of all things comic book. The event will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at Full Circle Book Co-op, 123 W. 10th St. Prizes will be offered throughout the rounds.

May 12: Nosebleeds showcase

The Nosebleeds Film Festival will host its May showcase from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. Friday at Last Stop CD Shop, 2121 E. 10th Street, in the basement. Daylily Coffee will serve tasty treats starting at 5:30. Come and mingle before the films start!. Admission is by a freewill donation with merchandise available for purchase.

May 12: Seesaw reception

Step into a space of shifting perspective, balance, and scale at Ipso Gallery’s newest show. Seesaw invites viewers to freely explore and teeter between art forms of all shapes and all sizes, from regional artists of all kinds. The opening reception is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ipso Gallery at Fresh Produce, 400 N. Main Ave.

May 13: Cinco de Mayo

The Cinco de Mayo Fiesta at Falls Park has been canceled due to the threat of threatening weather Saturday. It has been rescheduled for May 11, 2024.

May 13: Game Day

Children ages kindergarten through fifth grade can take part in Game Day at Siouxland Libraries’ main branch on Saturday. The event is come and go; it will run from 2 to 4 p.m. Oversized games, board games and other activities will be available.

May 16: KindnessFirst at Scheels

Stop by Scheels at the Western Mall between 3:30 and 6 p.m. to ride the Ferris wheel, go bowling, try your hand at the shooting gallery or play arcade games for free, courtesy of this KindnessFirst event from First National Bank! Grab your tickets at the door, and make sure to take an extra ticket to redeem for a free sweet treat. You can find more details here.

May 17: Movie screening

The award-winning film “Poundcake” will be shown for one night only–and it’s free. The movie will begin at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lucky’s Bar, 224 S. Phillips Ave. Following the screening there will be a live Q & A with writer and director Onur Tukel and some cast members via Zoom. The popcorn is free, but you must be 21 to attend.
