The Week Ahead is our hand-picked event guide to the next seven days in Sioux Falls and slightly beyond. For guaranteed placement or to promote your event ahead of time, email [email protected] about a featured event listing.

June 15: Family Foam Party

Head to Thelin Park, 3700 N. Galaxy Lane, for a free night of fun for all ages filled with music, games and foam from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. A bit of advice: Wear a swimsuit or clothes you don’t mind getting a little wet. No registration is required.

June 16: Kate Elizabeth

Kate Elizabeth returns to Glacial Lakes to perform on the patio. Make an evening of it with cocktails from Glacial Lakes’ new summer menu along with pizza. The live music begins at 7 p.m. Friday. The South Dakota native grew up listening to country music. She also will perform at 2 p.m. June 24 at Calico Skies Vineyard & Winery between Canton and Inwood, Iowa.

June 17: Juneteenth celebration

A Juneteenth celebration will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pioneer Park, Sixth Street and First Avenue in Brookings. Kids activities will include bubbles and water play. Entertainment offerings are a drum circle, fashion show, music and dance. Food trucks and local artisans will have items for sale. Vendors will include Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs.

June 18: Cooties chislic

Don’t panic — it’s much tastier than it sounds. The VFW JM Bliss Post 628 is hosting a lamb chislic feed from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance, 1600 W. Russell St. The public is invited. Cost is $8 per person for chislic, $9 per person for chislic with fries. And cooties? That’s an auxiliary of the VWF, and they do good things.

June 18: High Tide

In a city named for its falls, a concert celebrating the power and beauty of water seems appropriate. The Sioux Falls Municipal Band will offer “High Tide” with music as diverse as Sousa’s “Hands Across the Sea” and Handel’s “Water Music” at 8 p.m. Sunday at Terrace Park. As always, the concert is free.

June 21: Jazz music

Sioux Falls musicians Gene McGowan & Friends will perform jazz music on five Wednesdays this summer at The History Club, 758 S. Phillips Ave. Tickets cost $20 on Eventbrite. The first show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by events July 5 and 19, Aug. 2 and 16.

June 21: West Coast Swing

You ain’t got a thing if you ain’t got that swing! And if  you want to swing, come to the Sioux Falls West Coast Swing Dance event on the wooden floors at The Little Stone Church, 1001 E. Sixth St. Beginner and experienced dancers are welcome. Cost is $10 a person at the door. Make sure your shoes have a clean, smooth sole. The dancing runs from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Coming soon: June 24

Downtown Sioux Falls will debut Boutiques and Brews on Saturday, June 24. The event combines the excitement of a shopping crawl with the thrill of a scavenger hunt. Boutiques and Brews will showcase  16 participating venues offering a twist on the traditional shopping experience. Attendees will have the opportunity to put their detective skills to the test while exploring the heart of the city, discovering hidden treasures and enjoying thriving retail and craft beer culture. The scavenger hunt will commence at 10 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m. At each venue, participants will encounter a riddle that they must solve correctly to earn a raffle ticket. The raffle tickets will be pooled, and the prize winners will be selected and announced during the evening’s afterparty at The Source in the Jones421 Building from 5 to 8 p.m. For information and to stay updated on Boutiques and Brews, visit the Facebook event page.
