Park activities literally could be rolling into your neighborhood soon.

The Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Department has a new mobile unit, and it’s filled with fun for all ages.

“Staff will be bringing a wide variety of games and activities for everyone to enjoy such as a gaga pit, nine square set, giant checkers, snowshoeing in the winter and more depending on the time of year and location,” said Brandon Huether, communications and marketing coordinator.

“The Mobile Recreation Unit will be making appearances at neighborhood parks around Sioux Falls as well as stopping by various events.”

It made its debut last week at a cross-country meet at Morningside Park. Events will vary seasonally and by location, Huether said.

“During the summer months, people visiting the unit may find water-based games, and during the winter, they might find the opportunity to try out snowshoeing.”

Staff also will be on hand at each stop, ready to answer questions residents may have about Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation programs and to help sign them up for upcoming classes.

The department continues to hear how much residents enjoy parks, Huether said. The mobile vehicle is seen as a way to bring additional activities to parks and neighborhoods and to encourage people to interact with their neighbors, parks and recreation staff.

People can keep up to date on where it’s at by visiting siouxfallsparks.org or by following Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation’s social media accounts. Here’s a look at some upcoming stops:
