Jan. 31: Meet Lou Ferrigno

Actor and retired body builder Lou Ferrigno is coming to Sioux Falls. Ferrigno, perhaps best known for the title role in the TV show “The Incredible Hulk,” will be at Rainbow Comics, Cards and Collectibles, 3310 S. Minnesota Ave., from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Friday. JJ’s Comics and Art is a co-host. It will be $50 cash for every piece of signed memorabilia.

Jan. 31-Feb. 1: Night on Broadway

The Rainbow Chorus of Sioux Falls will offer two chances to listen to Broadway hits this weekend. The first concert will begin at 7 p.m. Friday with a second performance at 2 p.m. Saturday, both at First Congregational Church. “A Night on Broadway” will feature songs from “Wicked,” “Pippin,” “Into the Woods” and more. These are freewill donation concerts.

Feb. 1: Toy boxes

You might have seen the toy boxes at the public libraries but not been aware of the work that goes into putting them together. The Toy Lending Library of South Dakota puts a lot of work into the boxes at its main office. This Saturday, from 9 to 11 a.m., visit with the toy curator, see the work and receive coloring pages, stickers and a Valentine’s Day souvenir. The office is in the basement of First United Methodist Church, 401 S. Spring Ave. Use the Duluth Avenue entrance.

Feb. 1: Eagle watch

Watch them soar! Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation will host one of two chances to watch eagles this Saturday. From 10:30 a.m. to noon at Family Park, 300 N. Ellis Road, you can keep your eyes on the tree line for the majestic birds. Eagles breed in February, and the couples soar to dizzying heights. Binoculars and a spotting scope will be present, and hot chocolate and coffee will be served. Registration is not required. The second opportunity will be 1 to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 22 at Arrowhead Park.

Feb. 1: Chili cookoff

The Sioux Falls Bicycle Company, 1740 S. Cliff Ave., will host its annual chili cook-off from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday. Last year, more than a dozen cooks entered the contest. Guests will taste and vote for their favorite.

Feb. 5: Living history

Want to go back in time? Living history presenter Arn Kind will present “The French Voyageur in North America’s Fur Trade” at the Old Courthouse Museum at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Admission is free. The French voyageurs were among the first Europeans to explore and make maps of this region. Kind wears authentic attire as he teaches about the first business in South Dakota and Minnesota, the fur trade.

Coming up: Feb. 13

Glacial Lakes Distillery & Brewhouse, 200 S. Main Ave., will celebrate the 55th anniversary of Black Sabbath’s groundbreaking debut album, which was released Feb. 13, 1970. The evening will include a performance by an Ozzy Osbourne impersonator, who captures the essence of the Prince of Darkness himself. The event will begin at 6 p.m. Feb. 13.
